We have a nissan safari

we have a nissan safari 4wd with a 350 small block chev in it. was running fine but now it tends to keep fouling up the spark plugs & backfires badly, sometimes it takes ages to start or doesnt start at all. timing is fine, carb has been fully striped & cleaned but still does this. any advice??
