Re: bogging down when accellerating
Sorry to say, a battery and alternator would not affect your engine like that. You would either not start, or start and then just shut off, not bog down. If your VW is a diesel, I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you. Diesels are very unique creatures that require very unique people to work on them. If it’s a gas engine, start by changing your plugs (Bausch parts only please when possible), air filter PVC valve, spark plug wires. Also does your engine have a distributor and cap if so replace both along with the rotor. By the way, these are all basic tune up parts. If you don't know if they have been replaced, then they probably are all original parts. And luckily other than gapping your plugs nothing I have told you to do will require a degree or any experience. The people that sell you the plugs can gap them for you for free. Or if you choose you can get Bausch Platinum 2 Spark Plugs. These do not need to be gapped, and can be put in with no adjustments. Also put a can of BG44K in the tank, it will clean out everything where the fuel goes. Speaking of fuel, change your fuel filter. Check to see if your car has more than one fuel filter. Some cars have 2. A clogged fuel filter could cause a lot of the problems you are having also. Everything I told you to do first will also give you BETTER FUEL MILAGE. If none of these things work, you need to take the car in for diagnostic work because most anything beyond this is probably going to be more than what you want to get into. If you’re not afraid get a Haines Manuel or a Chilton, and get greasy my friend.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

new spark plugs this decade. (a tune up?0
the filter is part of all 60k tuneups. letting it clog wrecks good pumps.
my wild guess, its lack of fuel flow, do to old filter.
or low fuel pressure.
car is identical to a Corolla. so is not unique or rare as some Geo cars are.
the cam belt not changes, invites valve kissing piston tops. BOOM
end of engine. (costs more to fix then worth of car)
the word is bogging, my engine bogs
if if bogs WOT (wide open throttle) and dont catch up < ITS NOT THE TPS. ever.
tps bad causes short bogs, called hesitations.
The map sensor , is what measure air flow and the ECU matches fuel to this air flow.
my guess, is it does that, but fuel pressure is like 15PSI, bad.
Battery I am almost positive about that get a new battery or if you have an auto zone or auto store you can ask them to test the battery for you they normally do not charge for that if its not the battery then your alternator is starting to die both these parts show the same signs when failing hope it helps out
CAR BOGS DOWN COULD BE FAULTY TPS SENSOR, CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER, STOPPED UP AIR FILTER, FAULTY MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.BEST BET IS TO HAVE CAR CODE SCAN MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE ENGINE BOG DOWN.HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN AND SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY FAULT CODES.MAKE CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.ENGINE NEED TRANSMISSION TO FOR TORQUE AND POWER TO PUT CAR IN MOTION IF TRANSMISSION NOT WORKING OKAY IT WILL PULL DOWN ENGINE POWER.
Hi there, This problem is most commonly caused by a weak fuel pump. It will need to be checked with a fuel pressure guage. If you can obtain a fuel pressure guage you will need to observe the fuel pressure while accellerating to see if it drops out. good luck
as far as the bogging and dieing,it sounds like the tps.a simple trottle body service would fix that.for your new problem you need to some test before pointing to a salution.start the car and cover your tail pipe.as pressure builds it push you hand off.a clogged cat will put to much back pressure on the engine.i would un plug the mass air flow sensor and try running the car.this will turn on the check engine light.check your air filtter and plugs.also check your wires.a nother test is a coil strees test.(you have to go to a shop for this)if the car runs ok with no load but spitts and sputters in drive you may have a openning coil.checking with a meter only works if it does not run.last but not least while you at the shop, have them check your timing.a faulty cam sencer will bog the car down with bad timing advancement but not throw a code.
hope this helps, remember to keep it simple, expensive elec. parts are not always the problem
