Just bought car , the motor is out and completely dissassembled including the supercharger. I own a performance engine shop but I have no experience with these cars , need info on where to get shop manuals and all related service bullitins on this car
I'm told there isn't even a Haynes Manual on MR-2s. Toyota is tight with sharing the info, and keeps it all on computer or microfische at the dealers. However, there are some good detail breakdowns on the web if you search "MR-2 diagrams" and the like.

have you checked the engine coolant temp sensor to make sure it is working right? the sensor controls fuel to the injectors until closed loop has been reached then the o2 sensor takes over fuel control.
Which shield? Do you have a pic? If its the "Diaper" that hangs off the rear bumper, you should be ok. I took mine off when I first bought the car, has no effect whatsoever. If its a heat shield that's around the exhaust, it also has no effect, maybe a slight performance decrease due to higher engine bay temps.
Two things... check your oxygen sensor - or just replace it. Have you ever had the check engine light come on while the cruise is on at highway speed? jumper the error check terminals and see if you have any check engine codes showing. Also, see if someone removed the catalytic converter - or get a new one.
I have a 1989 toyota mr2 supercharge it is24 years old , this is the first time I had to change oxygen sensor, it passed after that, also set the timing. This has been the best car I've ever had.Im still driving it and i am the only person who owned it. Keep it,its a good investment. I have been asked if I want to sell it, but I just can't part with it.
That is a very hard part to source. Have you tried the www.mr2oc.com forum? it is the best place to look. I have an 85 mr2 with black interior. Definitely a lot harder with 88 and 89 as there were alot fewer made those years. Thanks, Lee
