Question about 1999 Volkswagen Cabrio

1 Answer

I bought a 99 vw jetta 5 weeks ago and check engine light is on got it diagnosed at auto zone and three codes came up it is now stalling out after I drive down the street and we replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, tune up and still stalling and it wont start up for hours after I know the other code was for secondary air injection but there are so many things that could be wrong with that and the air pump for that is almost 400.00 !! Please help narrow it down I cant spend alot on parts I dont even need and the dealer I bought it from wont even help me out a little bit that is if I can even get it towed there I just want my husband to fix it because I really think they are just plain rippin us off.

I have a 99 vw cabrio and it was doing the same thing. It would just stop in the middle of the street. It ended up being a sensor. I am not very car smart so I can not tell you which one it was. I will look at my repair paperwork and get back to you. I hope that this narrows it down for you though. I also changed almost every part on my car that deals with it starting. It ended up costing me about $1000.00 in the end.

Okay. The sensor that I replaced was the crank sensor. Hope this helps.

Check engine light on again just had a 02 sensor a week ago same thing check engine light and i did take it to auto zone for the codes

Codes do not mean replace. Ottozone tells everybody they need a Oxygen Sensor. Now that you have wasted your money , take it to a real repair shop and have them diagnose the real problem with the car.

2001 vw jetta gs :check engine light goes on and off

sounds like a faulty sensor tripping and reconnecting.. the next time the light comes on, take it to an advance auto store or an auto zone, they can read your codes for free... this will tell you what is being tripped, that way you know exactly what you need to get checked and/or fixed instead of a mechanic poking around trying to find everything thats NOT wrong. but if you are not expeiriencing any difficulty with the car, you should be fine. the check engine light actually means alot less than most people think. its usually a transmission or emissions sensor, or even as simple as leaving your gas cap off after filling and then driving for awhile.

Check engine light on for sometime; Response to throttle sluggish

If your catalytic converter is "below efficiency" or otherwise clogged, you will lose power as you drive and the vehicle heats. The more you drive the vehicle, the worse the problem will become. The exhaust can't escape properly through the catalytic converter, therefore your engine won't run properly. Your issues are related, and if you replace your catalytic converter they should go away.

2003 VW Jetta TDI Check Engine Light Issue

Try disconnecting the battery (unhook on of the terminals) wait for like 15 mins, hook the terminal once again and start the car. I also own a 2003 Jetta and once my engine light would come on after 2 mins of driving. Disconnecting the battery is like resetting the computer and hopefully the sensor.

without a fault code its impossible to diagnose. try pep boys or aamco or auto zone they will pull the code for you, usually for free. The code will relate to a sensor or area to be fixed. This will save you money and needless parts . post the code or codes so we can help

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT: '95 VW JETTA

That only works on old OBD 1 computers - unhook your battery for a couple hours - that might put your computer back to default and you can take it to auto zone and have them scan your computer for free.
