Have the RSS module checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . That should always be the first step . An it is
Reverse sensing system Parking Aid The parking aid system consists of the:
  • parking aid sensors
  • parking aid speaker
  • parking aid module
The parking aid system is activated when the parking aid module receives a network messages from the instrument cluster indicating that the vehicle is in reverse. The parking aid system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the rear bumper when REVERSE is selected. The parking aid system assists the driver in detecting certain objects while the vehicle moves in reverse at speeds less than 4.8 km/h (3 mph). The parking aid system may not detect angular or moving objects.

Reverse sensor not working on 2005 Ford Freestar. The "off" indicator stays illuminated on dash control even if you hit button to cut on/off. Have checked all related fuses and they are all OK....

You have a bad reverse sensor or cable. My freestar got "gently" hit from behind and it damaged one of the 5 sensors, the (RSS) Reverse sensing system controller wants to see all 5 sensors at start up of the vehicle, if it does not, then it shuts it's self off. Else the RSS controller is damaged.

Reverse lights won't work but test good. Where is the switch located that operates them.

The switch is the transmission range sensor also called park/ neutral safety switch. Yours is located on the steering column, right side1.image

I have the rss reverse sensors and when i put the truck in reverse the light illumes off and the system wont alarm

Check the park aid sensor lenses for damage.

Next remove the park aid sensors ( remove from the back of the bumper ) and check for damage.

Check the connectors on the sensors for corrosion or damage.

The symptom you describe is usually the park aid module cannot test the sensors ( or they fail test )

Ford windstar reverse parking , replaced sensors

You have the infamous Reverse Sensing System (RSS) problem. You can search the internet and find various "fixes", but nothing approaching plug and play. Ford has an elaborate troubleshooting procedure using special test equipment.

Reverse sensor

The system is telling you that there is a problem and it shuts itself off in order to let you know it can not work properly at this time. It is most likely a sensor failure. If one sensor goes it shuts down the whole thing. If you had a computer then you could pull codes from the parking aid module and find out what was wrong. Other then that just make sure they are clean and not damaged make sure the connectors are all seated. Other then that you would need to have a shop tell you exactly which sensor was bad. It is most likely one sensor but could be a harness issue also.
Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop .
