Speedometer stopped working after fitting an alarm. What could be the problem?

Put everything back the way it was and see if speedometer starts working again?
Newer instrument clusters, the gages are not hardwired, The cluster receives buss data telling the instrument what to do with gages and speedometer. Checking the speedometer/vss sending unit would be a thought. Hopefully, you didn't hurt the instrument cluster?
What is year--make--model?

I need to identify the fuse that controls the Speedometer

There is no fuse just for the speedometer , there is a fuse or fuse's for the whole instrument cluster . IF the fuse or fuse's for the instrument cluster blew ,the whole instrument cluster would be dead not just the speedometer ! I would look for the stepper motor that controls the speedometer being bad, or the VSS - vehicle speed sensor . But there are other thing's that wouldn't work correctly if the VSS was bad > it wouldn't shift correctly or at all . Most vehicles now a days the speed it determined by the ECM/PCM - engine computer . The VSS is an input to the engine computer , the engine computer sends this info on a serial data bus to the instrument cluster , along with temp. an fuel level info etc... Don't know what make ,model an year vehicle you have but I do know GM vehicles had known stepper motor problems .

2000 GMC Jimmy 4×4 The ABS light is on, the speed odometer does not work, and it does shift out of 1st gear, if I manually put it into second gear then it will shift fine, it has a changed VSS

Did you have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ?
Speedometer
The speedometer is an analog gauge that is located in the instrument cluster. The PCM/VCM receives an analog input from the vehicle speed sensor and converts it to a digital signal containing 4,000 pulses per mile (PPM) for the instrument cluster.
The PCM/VCM sends this digital output (4,000 PPM) to the instrument cluster on a designated circuit. These pulses can be measured in Hertz (Hz) using a digital multimeter (DMM) on the AC scale. The PCM/VCM calibration is matched to the final drive and tire size of each vehicle. If the final drive or tire size is changed for any reason, the PCM/VCM must be updated in order to match the new final drive or tire size. If not, the signal will not be accurate for proper speedometer/odometer operation. An incorrect signal can affect the antilock brakes and the cruise control systems.
The speedometer system consists of the instrument cluster, vehicle speed sensor (VSS), PCM/VCM and related wiring. The VSS is a permanent magnet signal generator that sends an analog signal proportional to the propeller shaft speed to the PCM/VCM. The VSS mounts to the transmission tailshaft extension housing on 2-wheel drive (2WD) models and the transfer case output shaft housing on 4-wheel drive (4WD) models.
Repairs to the instrument cluster can only be performed by an authorized instrument cluster service center. DTC P0502 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit Low Input and DTC P0503 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit Intermittent in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E
- DTC P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit in Engine Controls - 4.3L Important: If the instrument cluster is completely inoperative, refer to Instrument Cluster Inoperative .
Install a scan tool.
Raise the vehicles drive wheels. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
Start the engine.
Place the transmission into drive for automatic transmission and third gear for manual transmission.
Compare the displayed vehicle speed on the Instrument Cluster with the monitored speed on the scan tool.
Does the vehicles speedometer and the scan tool both display 0 km/h (0 mph)? You really need a Factory scan tool or equivalent to check this . The VSS is an input to the PCM/VCM . engine computer . You can test with a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter , for signal to engine computer .
I know most people don't like hearing this , but I suggest you take it to a ASE certified repair facility .

I have a 2007 chevy colbalt i drive it everyday to work and 1 day last wk i started it then it died i started it again it died rightaway so i tried a 3rd time it ran for 5 min and died, i left it alone...

Is the check engine light On or any other lights ? What engine does the car have 2.0 , 2.2 , or 2.4 L Has any work been done on the vehicle lately, air filter, plugs, fuel filter ? Is the coolant full and is the oil level good ? How many miles are on the odometer ? Any messages on message center ( if yours has one ) low or reduced power ? Should have all the modules checked for codes , not just the engine computer ! The instrument cluster on this car receives information for the speedometer , fuel level , tachometer ,boost gage ( if equipped with turbo ) via a communication network called a serial data bus. ( GMLAN serial data circuit ). It starts from the ( VSS ) vehicle speed sensor which tells the PCM or ECM . engine computer , which then sends this information out on the data bus . A module called a ( BCM ) body control module then picks up this information and then it relays it to the instrument cluster microprocessor which turns the speedometer . I have seen shorts in sensors , wiring , and components like the instrument cluster , BCM and PCM cause the data bus to shut down the vehicle .

Speedometer quick qorking 2004 usuzu rodeo 3.5

did you connect any OBD2 scan tool and look.
the PCM will tell you if the VSS is dead. flat out tell you.
why no scan the PCM and not work blind./??
the tool is cheap to buy, rent or loan. (or any mech will just do it for free as good will. (no dealers here).

ok, Rodeo, 3.5 2004
3.5L is wrong, dead wrong, 3.2 is my guess.
see here, see country and engines, neither i can guess.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu_Wizard
which engine ReALLY ?
Not the Rodeo SPORT , answers below are 3.2L non sport.

Speedo dead. what about Odometer.?????
is replace sensor a statement or a question?
replaced with a "d"
my guess it was a question. and guess.
step 1 and 2 all electrical problems.
1: test the fuses, related. Fuse #11?
2: battery fully charged, at 12.6vdc, not 10v, at 10 electronincs dont work right. fix battery. or charge system.

now how does the 04 work.?
the VSS sensor feed data to many things.
PCM (for fueling data)
Speedometer
Odometer
ABS
supension control unit.
cruise control
etc.

if the odometer works its not the VSS.
see?
the cluster is 100% electronic, ....

VSS is input to Speedo and the odometer is electronic inside
same, so if VSS is bad, both die.
fact.
if only the speedo is bad, then it is bad.

scan the PCM and not guess.
the PCM reports a bad VSS, with 100% assurance.

Speedometer cable transmission

no engine stated or transmission nor (worse) is it 4wd or 2wd.?
A/T or M/T , 4wd or 2wd, mine are both 4wd and M/T , know well.
Ill give all ways possible. (cert. tech)
you can do anything, there are no limits.
but there are consequences.. lots
context?
im not sure the question, is the one in car dead.?
and you plan on not fixing that? we need these facts.
or you want 2 speedos. one for front seat and 1 for back>?

see cluster page. here. free,
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

STOCK: 1997
the PCM measure speed via the VSS from the tranny and sends MPH
to the I/P cluster brain, (data comms) this brain then sends speed to you at the speedo meter needle (gage). (stock setup)
(bar stool, answer)
Please,
note the VSS sensor can be in 3 places. 2wd, 4wd and on 2 differ.
post car spec, and answers get easier
post photos of trans, better. (left and right side)

transmission type, and even mid year changes on transmissions can
change this.

so your car has no speedometer cable. and
on some early transmissions, you can add one, only getting the full
transmission facts on car (label) could you find this out.

if you remove the VSS, the ECU will go to limhome and never run right again, and 2 times that, if tranny is a Automatic, it shifts using the VSS data !
VSS means vehicle speed sensor.

so tell me , where would you use a cable, there is no cable port.
(look and see, is it missing, yes?)
so scratch mechanical.
is there other ways sure. lots. (no idea of application,.. me.)
Get a GPS speed meter (sold as a guage) stand alone gage.

or load Speedo (app) to any Android phone and Glue CEL to dash)

or pot a Tom Tom Nav on the dash and see it right there.
or you can buy a mag sensor and speedo setup, that fits
to the rear drive shaft that gives you speed, (after calibrating it)
(after market Vss sensor + 4wires + guage ) 1/2 mechanical.

btw , i do have this android app , used for true speed, my large tires
make my speedo in car lie, )

custom parts.

How to fix a speedometer cable

Well you know it does not have a speedo cable since you replaced the speed sensor in the transmission.
My guess would be a problem with the speedo or cluster.

1997 Buick LeSabre speedometer, eratic operation reads faster than speed actually going, analog electronic unit. How do I repair and access it.

A reliable fix would be to send the cluster out for repair, if in fact the problem lies in the speedo head. There is a bulletin for this car that states that at 20mph the speedo can be + or - 4 mph inaccurate, and its normal operation.
I suggest first having the alternator tested. The VSS on this car produces an AC voltage signal. The alternator also produces AC voltage, which is converted to DC before it is output to the cars electrical system. If any AC voltage is leaking from the alternator, it can interfere with the VSS signal, and cause the speedo to read higher, or even show that the car is moving when sitting still.

Honda Accord EX 94 vss has been replaced, but still nothing work

If all the connection and power supplies to instrument cluster are ok,I suspect that the speedometer or instrument cluster is faulty but before you replace it, make sure the gear inside the transmission that drives the VSS is in good.
