You also may have a block heater that blew out.
Blown water pump seal or the radiator core itself is cracked at the bottom. Check the lower part of the vehicle visually and identify where the liquid is coming out. If it is from the front of the motor it is most likely the water pump. If it is from the base of the radiator the core is damaged. There is a slim chance, if your radiator mix was off and it froze in your area, that one or more of the Engine Freeze plugs popped. This will be the case if the leakage is from the side of the motor, which also brings into play the possibility the Engine core cracked as well causing your problem.
I left out a piece of important information. The location of the leak itself. I have gotten underneath the car to try and find where the leak is located. It appears to be coming from the back of the engine and not the front. But I can not find the exact place it's leaking from. And It only leaks when the car is running. Do you think it is the heater core?
Unfortunately no. This is not good news. You have either cracked your block or head or lost the rear Freeze Plug. It could be as simple as a blown Head gasket or busted/cracked Water jacket but the only way to find out is to open the engine up and start tearing it down. Because of the location you are most likely going to have to pull the motor out for a complete inspection if you don't find the problem after you remove the heads and other components. I recommend you get a Haynes or Chilton's manual before you start this work in order to have guides and photos of the parts you will be removing and instructions on how to remove them properly. The heads have to be removed and replaced in a specific order or you damage them. Good Luck.
ok thanks for your help. I'm going to have to just take it to a mechanic. What is wierd is that the vehicle never overheated. But I also kept putting antifreeze in it. The leak started slow and then all of the sudden it was like something just blew out and the fluid started pouring out instead of a slow leak. None the less, more of a job than I am comfortable tackling. I hate to hear that it's going to be that involved. The vehicle might not be worth putting that much money into it.
If you had Anti Freeze in your oil or Valve area you have a blown Head gasket or cracked Head. This can happen for many reasons and may never overheat, although the overheating is often a symptom. Good Luck. Sorry for the bad news.
