Sounds like the engine is starving for fuel - plugged fuel filter, failing fuel pump, malfunctioning fuel regulator, etc. Have the fuel pressure checked.
Unfortunately, yes. It's a pain. I own a 1991 Pontiac grand prix SE 3.1L.
My fuel pump problem started when I ran out of gas (gas gauge was offset) Of course it shuts off w/o gas but it will more likely kill your fuel pump and clog the $#!t out of your filter.
If it makes a buzzing sound under the vehicle w/o the engine running, near the trunk area, replace it along with the filter.
Sounds like the catalytic converter is plugged. Remove the oxygen sensor and check the back pressure.
This takes time to reply, please leave good feedback. Good Luck!
Sounds like you are loosing fuel pressure intermittently. Is there any damage to the fuel lines? Maybe the fuel pump is on its way out (loosing prime.) If you find this helpful, please rate, thank you.
CHECK THE FUEL FILTER FIRST.IF THE FILTER IS PLUGGED U CAN HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.IF THAT DOES NOT FIX IT U NEED TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE.THERE IS A FUEL PRESSURE TEST PORT ON THE FUEL INJECTION RAIL(TOP OF THE ENGINE)THE PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40-47PSI.KEY ON ENGINE OFF.
how about highway driving will it cruse at highway speeds and if you were to step down on it does it bog down ? and does it still have the cats on it ? just a thought..
Best to do a fuel pressure test, pump might be weak and dosent show up until it gets gets warm. Best to do the test after it quits again when pump is at its hottest. If you havent done it yet chg. fuel filter too.
