Question about 1994 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

A/C on 1994 Taurus Station Wagon

Vehicle was very low on R134 and when I try to charge it, it will not take the refrigerant. I use the standard manifold guages for 134 and a bulk tank.
A friend said he had heard it could be some sort of relay. Help.

Outside temperature ws 95. High side gage did not register any pressure which indicates no refrigerant passing through.

Did you weigh the tank? Sometimes if it is cooler out the freon will go in very slowly. Also.. Is the compressor running. the comp sucks the freon out of the can tank etc. You can warm up the freon a little warm water works it goes in faster

I have a 1994 ford taurus station wagon, the battery won't stay charged, the confusing thing is that the inside panel and door light works

you have a faulty alternator by the sounds of it, try this simple test, : test the voltage of the battery with the vehicle off with a simple multimeter, it should read just over 12v then test it with the car running, it should read around 14-14.5 volts if it still only reads 12v then your alternator needs replacing.

You need to have your alternator checked.... A good sign is if you start your car and take the pos. battery cable loose and the car dies chances are your alternator is bad...

Trying to locate where low side is on ac so can recarge ac and what tipe ac is 134r old tipe

  • The Freon that a 1992 Taurus uses is R-12. You can't recharge this system because R-12 is available only to licensed technicians and is quite regulated. The adapters used to check an R134 system and an R-12 system are very different in size. You cannot check an R-12 Ac system with R134 gauges. You will have to take your 92 Ford Taurus to a shop and have them charge your R-12 AC system. No way around this.
  • I think the R-12 is far cooler in temperature so I kept the R-12 in my 92 Taurus. I never converted it to R134.
  • As for where the HI and LOW side are you did not list the engine size but if you go to the AC compressor and follow the lines around the engine bay you will quickly locate them. One should be on the left side by the firewall and the other will be on the left side towards the front.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

1994 Ford Taurus GL - Blows ambient temperature air when set on coolest setting, heat works normally. Refrigerant is full and no leaks in the line. Any ideas? Before I parked the vehicle last year, I...

If the refrigerant is ok the compressor should be coming on. If it isn't, check the AC fuse. Since it was not up to par when last used, it sounds like the refrigerant is low in charge though. If it is low enough, the compressor won't start.

I have charger the air condition an sitt will not get cold

I am the original owner of a 1998 Ford Escort SE wagon. The summer of 2008 I had problems with my A/C system - the first A/C problem on this vehicle. Be careful that you do not over-charge your R134-A system.
1. Check that the A/C Compressor Clutch engages and drives the compressor properly (via the
serpentine drive belt and proper engine idling speed, A/C switched "on" etc.). If the A/C
compressor clutch doesn't engage and drive the compressor you will not be able to charge the
system to the correct refrigerant capacity and operating pressures.
2. You should be familiar with and have the proper tools to test & troubleshoot your auto's A/C
system. Test gauge(s), hose & connector's will be needed.

If the A/C compressor clutch does not engage the compressor, then you will need to troubleshoot the electrical system and components related to your auto's A/C system. This can be time consuming and requires more skill and information (accurate electrical schematics, etc.).

My problem:
1. A/C clutch didn't energize and engage.
2. System slightly low on R134-A, about a 7 oz. charge was needed after all was taken care of.

Solutions:
1. Electrical problem in the electronic controls for the A/C system. The "Contant Contol Relay
Module" (Ford part no. 3S4Z-12B577-BA, RELAY) had to be replaced. Sometimes Ford calls
this "black box" unit an "Integrated Control Relay Module". The location of this "black box" on my vehicle is under the engine intake air filter housing - replacement cost (new) is about $230;
(used) about $35.
2. Charged the required amount of R134-A into the system via the proper test gauge and related
equipment.
Please note: I have experience and training in mechanical (including refrigeration systems) and electrical systems.
