Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Clutch Problems My 2000 nissan maxima got a new clutch and transmition about two and a half years ago. I have never driven it too hard, yet in the last week the clutch has slowly lost resistance until the friction point is reached. It is very difficult to shift into gear at first when turning on the car, but after a few miles it is no problem. The car, once in gear, drives perfectly. I have taken the car to a few people and they all have had somthing different to say. I want to have the car fixed soon without geting ripped off. If any one has an idea of what the problem might be, and/or have an idea what i should expect to have to pay to get it fixed, please let me know. Thanks.

Poss. wrong fluid in trans. It takes 75W-90. Is your clutch master cylinder full?? if not you have a leak. Replace the master cylinder and slave cylinder on trans. Look at the master cylinder boot to see if its wet/inside the car by the clutch pedal. Fluid normally leaks into the boot

replace the clutch master cylinder. The rubbers on the piston swell over time and/ or break down blocking up the ports in the cylinder.. Wrong fluid is the main culprit for this type of fault.

most likely a torque converter clutch servo/solenoid problem
it will not require a new transmission just an accredited transmission specialist shop to sort out the electronic control problems
if it goes in reverse , ti could be a TCM problem in not activating the torque converter clutch in the drive position

You don't need a clutch--probably just a slave cylinder. Check the clutch hydraulic reservoir--I bet it's empty. Should be near the brake reservoir on the firewall. Let me know if you would like instructions to do it yourself or if you have any other questions

You should not have to replace the master or slave cylinder with a rear main seal but if the clutch has alot of miles on it you should have that done with the seal because you will be paying for almost all of the labor with the seal.

Sudden clutch failure

Sounds like you have a leak .... a bad master/ slave cylinder .... that car has a hydraulic clutch system you may see oil dripping, much cheaper than a new clutch ... pumping it may help shift until it empties out entirely ... check the reservoir ...

Nissan 2000 ac hot when idle

the a/c condenser has a fan in front ( there is actually 2 fans if you sit on the car it will be fan on right side ) if this fan does not
come on immediately when you are parked and engine in idle
there is a problem with power to it, or motor failure. If you drive it
on the highway and a/c operates fine that's because air is circulating though condenser (thats what the fan is supposed to do at idle or slow traffic)
