Question about 2001 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

Gears Don't work!

My husband dropped the car off for me to use and an hour later I got in to drive it and it wouldn't reverse or drive. The car starts and runs just fine, but when it's put in to Reverse it goes nowhere, when it's put in drive it goes nowhere. The driveshaft was just replaced and it will drive in Neutral only but it's a little sluggish. Please Help!  PS-No, it's not the ER Brake

2000 Town and Country will not go into reverse, all drive gears work fine, I am assuming the transmission is going out but I am not sure. Is there a fix or should I start looking to replace/rebuild the...

I wouldn\'t be thinking the tranny is going. I would be looking to see if a switch is not being made or the linkage is worn. I would put it up on some ramps and look at the moving parts when shifting. Engine OFF. Brake ON.
Usually, reverse is all you would have left when a transmission did go. At least that was what use to happen back in the day. Maybe someone else has more info for you but I thought I could start you out.... good luck.

I have a 2000 Subaru Outback and recently the ABS light came on while driving out to my parents'. When I got there, I called our mechanic and made an appointment for later in the week to have it...

Here is an idea. Check the connections between the battery and the car's ground and the starter. Then find the ground cable which connects the engine to the car and check the connections there as well. Often times odd ball electrical problems are caused by a faulty ground, especially when there is a starter issue. May help, costs nothing but a few moments of your time, and once in a dozen times it is the problem.

Reverse and no foward gears

It will probably have to be towed in and checked out. This can be a total failure of forward gears and necassary for knowledgable person to diagnose,< if you decide to two use a dolly that you can rent about anywhere not strap because it can cause even more damage to transmission pulling this way>. It could be simple, but needs diagnosed by someone who can tell you properly.
