Gas cover stuck - manual backup?

Is there any way to open my gas cap? The lever has stopped working as of last night - and I need to fill up! I looked through the owner manual, and can't find anything. I have had the car for several years, and this has never happened before....

I looked inside the trunk, and couldn't find anything... whereabouts is it located? Perhaps under the liner?

My Jaguar X Type gas cap "sticks". I can open it by wedging a corner of a credit card in the left side or the cover, then go in the car and pull the lever. There are two flimsy metal bands that hold the cover in place and they sometimes bend and then the release doesn't work.  it should open easily with the credit card wedged in; then bend back the metal bands into shape.

There is a manual release in the trunk on the side near the Gas door. It's sort of hard to identify, but look for a cable with a black tab on the end pull the tab up and you will see a picture of the gas cap on the side. Hopefully pulling this will open your outer gas door.

I'm sorry, I was looking at a s-type 2002 and didn't see you had a x-type 2002, my mistake. Hopefully someone else has a solution.

How can I get the gas-cap door open?

somewhere the line is not connected or is broken... pull on the lever if there is no tension there is an error...look for a wire with an encased end(nubby ) if it is not attatched you can pull it...if it is and doesnt work you will need to follow it under the moulding and find a point it is attached to and pull...if its the gasstanc cap side best to get a thin flat piece of metal and "pry" it .

2008 Toyota Camry gas-cap door release is stuck; how do you release it?

Hi fellow,
Your problem has two options ;first, you have to inspect the interior wire that pulls the lock of the gas cap.If found cut you should replace it at the mechanic's. Secondly, once the wire remains uncut or undamaged by any reason, the lock itself might be jammed due to the rust or misuse. Therefore, you are advised to use some anti rust liquid it wil work. Good Luck.

I need to remove the tiny door that covers the gas cap and need to know how

Two methods come to mind, I assume the little gas door lever inside the car has broken. Possibly inside the trunk, near the gas inlet protrusion, will be a back-up release cable you can use. Failing that, you are going to have to peel away the trunk insulation around the gas inlet, find where the broken cable pulls the button to open the door and do that manually.

Good Luck

1997 toyota rav 4 hood release dose not work

It may be that the hood release cable has streched so there is no tension when pulling the leaver. Try to reach reach above the lever and pull the cable making it less slack and then pull the lever all the way up with your other hand and hopefully this will open it, if this works i suggest replacing it before it stretches even more or snaps and you wont get it open..

2001 nissan altima with a stuck gas cap door. Lever in front ''seems'' to be working. But mechanism is not releasing. Best way to manually open it.

Open the trunk and behind the trim cover near the gas door only on the inside there is a cable pull there also. the owners manual will show you where it is it you have it.

Mazda3 5-dr gas cap stuck

this is a very large problem with the gas caps on the threes. take the cap to the dealer and have them replaced the fuel filler pipe and the gas cap that is the only way to fix the problem. if you just replace the gas cap it will happen again.

2004 Toyota Sienna power slide door won't open all the way

The suggested fix above did fix my problem. The problem is that a 2.5" hinged finger that pops up from the floor of the door opening to block the door. Apparently, the finger should, but doesnt go back down after the gas flap is closed. Even after I got hinged finger down (so that the sliding door would open/close all the way), it still would not go back down after the gas flap has been opened. i.e. I have to push the finger back down every time after we fill up with gas. It looks like there is a little wire/spring that should pull the finger back down, but it is off of the finger. I think that replacing this back on the finger should fix the problem permanently.
