Spark plugs are not firing

Distributor replaced, gas is getting to carburetor but plugs are not there something I have forgotten?

Remember to put on a new rotor button when you replace the distributor cap?

A car needs 3 things to start. Air, fuel, and spark. Check that it can get air by removing the air cleaner and inspecting it. Leave the air cleaner off for now. Try a squirt of starting fluid into the carburetor (not a lot mind you, just a quick squirt). Be prepared to quench a flame if the engine backfires through the carburetor (have a wet towel handy). Crank the engine. If it fires, you have spark. If it does not fire, you have ignition problems. If it fires and stalls out quickly, you have fuel problems.
For fuel problems: Be sure you have gas! (I know it is obvious, but check the tank!). If the car has not been used for awhile, the gas may have gummed up the carburetor. While it is possible for the weekend mechanic to take a carburetor apart and clean it, it is probably best left to a professional mechanic. Verify that you are getting gas to the carburetor by detaching the rubber gasoline hose at the carburetor. Most cars today have electric fuel pumps, so turning on the ignition should result in a stream of fuel from the gasoline hose. If not, crank the engine and see if a mechanical fuel pump moves the gas. If you get no gas, find out why or your car will never start. If you get gas, the carb is probably gummed up. It is best to conduct this last test into a mason jar to catch the gas, and it is best to postpone the cigarette break until after the test is complete.
If you suspect the ignition, pull a spark plug. It should look clean and whitish to light coffee color. If it is filled with carbon and oil, you have other engine problems. You can look for an ignition spark by laying the plug case against the engine while it is attached to the distributor wire. Crank the engine and you should see a spark jump the gap at the spark plug tip. This spark is often small and hard to see in sunlight. Do not perform the spark plug test in the temporal vicinity of the fuel test. A hot spark with gasoline nearby is dangerous.

A car that turns over means that at least the battery is good. Try next to insure it has air, gas, and spark.

The motor is turning over but not firing up. I removed a spark plug wire to see if it was getting spark, nothing. I then replaced the wire n removed the wire running to the coil, then i got sparks. I...

sounds like your rotor is bad, it does happen, and that would explain no spark to ignition wires to the plugs-look inside the distributor cap too, and replace it if you see moisture, hairline cracks, or the terminals are badly oxidized.

Crank but no fire

on any car always check ur fuses first... and ifthat does't work then check your distributor by taking out a spark plug from only one cylnder and put it in the plug and lay it on the block. then turn your key as if to crank it and c if ur getting a spark from the spark plug. if u aren't, then its either the distributor cap, a worn rotory button inside the distributor cap or it could be the moduel inside the distributor which would then mean youll have to replace the whole distributor

We have replaced the motor on a 1995 blazer with a rebuilt long block. The engine will now turn over but not start. It has been suggested that we replace the cam sensor. Plugs fire and it's getting gas?...

It has to be in the timing, you either have the wires in the wrong place with the firing order, or there is something wrong with the Dist.If it is sparking and getting gas, it should fire up. Does it back fire? Order no. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, with electronic ignition, number one at 5:30, I would check the distributor, make sure the number one is at 5:30 with the number one at tdc. Hope this helps.

I was driving my 1997 dodge grand caravan last night and it lost power to drive like it was out of gas. My gas gauge says I have a half tank.

Assuming that you still have some gas in your tank. You can check the ignition systems in your car. This will start from the ignition coil to the distributor cap. At the distributor, check the rotor for carbonization, this must be cleaned. Check the spark plug cables for cracks. And finally the spark plugs, for burnt out. It may need replacement.
Before checking the ignition system, check the gas
lines going to the carburetor, it could be clogged or
broken. No gas fuel going to your carburetor will also
make your engine stop.

Engine won't start

even if you have spark, it may not be "good spark"

Try cleaning the contacts to the coil, or replace the coil itself.

May have pinched or cut a wire by mistake during the work you have done. Check all for proper grounding as well
