my car does the same thing and i am afraid that there might be a fire of unexplained origin if this happens again. But did someone open the door without pressing the unlock on the remote i think that is what did it to this car ok? Don't get me wrong I like the car but this is truly annoying...

Things to try before getting the dealer involved!

  • Lock and unlock your Volvo using the key fob 5 times.
  • Try your other fob.
  • Change the battery in your key fob
  • If you have more than one key fob on your key chain, remove it and try again. The other fob could be causing interference with the immobilizer. NOTE: This includes non-Volvo key fobs.
  • If nothing else works, replace the immobilizer antenna.
  • If you replaced the antenna and still have issues. Well, it’s dealer time!

Volvo s60 2003 - Without warning the car won't start but when you leave it overnight it appears to be okay. Clock runs sporatically and different msgs such are airbag, alarm was going off, removed

Sound like you are dealing with a bad battery connection,or even a bad ignition switch,Volvo at your year had ignition related problems where the ignition switch would go past position 1,this was due to ingition column lock,On your type of make and model it is not adviseable you crank the engine, and recrank the engine if it not starting your immoblizer is done every one key ignition cycle, and can create false message,or DTC (trouble codes),

My 2006 volvo s40 won't start and the key (remote) does not work. Had to use regular key to open the door. alarm still on and car won't start.

I had the same problem when my battery went flat and tried to use jumper cables connected to another vehicles battery. I called Volvo and they said I need to disconnect the battery terminal to reset the computer. After re-conecting it the remote control worked again and I was able to jump start the car. Maybe your car's computer went into a similar state.

2001 volvo s60 has imobolizer active. Will not start, tried disconnecting battery and different keys does anyone have a suggestion on hot to reset or fix?

When you disconnect the battery, short the posative and negative cables together for 5 minutes. Then reconnect the battery and try to start it. If this doesn't work, the car will have to be scanned with Vida at a Volvo dealer or an independant shop that has Vida.

Jump starting the car

Unless you have a "jumper connection" under the hood, just jump to the battery. Be careful to not make sparks, and connect positive side first.
