Question about 1998 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

98 ford taurus door code

My car has a key pad on the driver door and I didn't get the code for it when i bought the car used. I also didn't get a manual for my car. I was wondering if there is anyway to find the code. I looked in the glove compartment and in the trunk everywhere I could. Is the manual the only place to find the code? Or could it be on the car somewhere???

Your code may be on a sticker on the keyless entry module in the trunk below the package self on a tray the drops down.

Have to see the dealer & also have an owners manual
to change the codes to what you want on the door

Ignition keys you lost?

You should have at least three keys programmed to
the ignition key detector system (First)

Disable Keyless entry pad

The key is mechanical so disabling the pad would make no difference.

Help with finding keyless door pad codes and resetting

Open the trunk and up under the package tray where rear speakers mount,on the passenger side you will see the module. It will be black and have 3 connectors to it.It will have a sticker on it with a 5 digit code.It will also have a sticker on one of the trunk hindges with this code if someone has not removed it.Here is how the system works:

Keyless Entry Keypad To unlock the driver front door (20124), and disarm the anti-theft alarm control (19A366) (if equipped):
  • Enter the permanent factory code.
  • Enter the owner's alternate code.
To unlock the passenger door(s), press the 3/4 button within five seconds of unlocking the driver front door or luggage compartment door (40110) . To unlock the luggage compartment door, press the 5/6 button within five seconds of unlocking the driver or passenger door(s). To turn on the interior lamps (13776) and light all illuminated components, lift either front door handle (22404) and press any button on the keyless entry keypad (14A626) . To lock all doors, press the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time. (It is not necessary to enter the key code first.) This will turn off courtesy lamps. To program a temporary code:
  • Enter permanent code.
  • Within five seconds of pressing last button of permanent code, press 1/2 button.
  • Enter any alternate five-digit code within five seconds of pressing 1/2 button.

Combination on car keypad does not open doors

Does the key pad on the door light up? Are there any tears in the key pad numbers? Does the key pad lock the doors?.
There are no fuses directly for the pad.. The key pad is linked directly to the RAP. module. If the locks work from the FOB the fuses for the Module are good. Chances are the pad is no good especially if it don't light up. The RAP module is above the driver side foot well, directly above the accelerator pedal . Hope this helps.

1998 Ford Taurus - Keys don't work manually in door

I suspect someone changed the ignition switch and just used the key that came with it instead of having the switch repinned to the existing key. The key for the doors and ignition are the same from the factory.
You should look for the original keys or the plastic card with the key codes on it. The delaer can cut you a key just for the doors with this code. You don't need a key blank with the chip just to open the doors. Or go to the dealer, Ford or Mercury and ask them to get the codes from Ford using your VIN # (17 digit). Or, the sellimg dealer usually keeps them on file. Any dealer can tell you who the selling dealer was by using your VIN #, good luck
