Blower motor working?..do you have vacuum control traps doors from defrost to cabin heat..may have bad vacumm line or thermostat may be stuck open or heater control valve bad.if fogging winodws the heater core is bad.

Thank you , yes the blower is working, it is blowing only cold air. The vehicle appears to be getting to full operating temp. I do not see a water controle to stop flow so I again figure it to be the air directional door is not working. But do not know were to check.

follow heater hoses just before heater core....should see vacuum lines there too

I'm having the same problem, but you can hear the air directional door flapping. So I only have cold air blowing. I to need to know where to check and how to correct this problem,

  • Anonymous Jan 18, 2011

Most likely it is the heater core. I just replaced mine and had to remove the dash to get to it. If thermostat is working okay and vacuum door is opening and closing properly the other part to check is the heater control valve. Located on engine side of firewall just in front of heater core. The heater core is a tough job to replace. took me 13hrs check the hoses going thru the firewall and see if the hoses are hot. You may have a pin hole leak in heater core as I did, the duct work will fill with antifreeze and fog the windows and blow cold air.start cheap...rad cap then thermostat.heater control valve then heater core. if flapper door is opening and closing the vacuum lines are doing their job.. Most likely heater core. have your coolant system flushed. heater core may be clogged.

Located on the firewall on the interior is a small blend door motor that controls a damper that switches from the hot and cold side of the comfort system. The clicking you are hearing is probably the small plastic gears of that little motor have stripped out and cannot switch the damper to the hot side. This motor can be accessed by removing the radio and reaching in the hole left by the radio. It can be easily changed by yourself. Just might be a little tricky at first look to get to. I have included a link to the part, assuming you have a 2000 windstar.

I changed the thermostat but it still does not heat up what else could be wrong

Heater needs Heater Core, Heater control valve, air diverter inside the car and hot water in the heater core. If you just change the thermostat you must have had a reason. If the car was running hot it could be a radiator clog. If the core is clogged no heat. If the heater core was drained when you changed the Tstat there may be air in it - if so no heat. If the control valve (on the heater hose) does not shift- no heat. If the diverter door in under the dash does not direct the fan air through the heater core- no heat.

Y wont my heater get hot and my ac wont get cold?

Ok well every heating system and A/c system work very much the same...there are some troubleshooting Steps I would suggest...
First for the heating issue:
Step 1: Check Coolant level Low coolant can cause warm to cool air threw your heating system, not enough to fully heat...Caution: make sure the engine is cool when checking..You should have a tank that you can see the level..if not the top of the radiator is good.
Step 2: Any leaks in the coolant system, by just looking under the hood depending on the color, (Purple, Red, Orange, and Green) The system needs to obtain a certain Pressure to be effective..
Step 3: If all above checks ok...Assuming the blower motor is working correctly and good flow is present, there may be a vacuum leak or electronic divert-er malfunctioning( mixing cold and hot air thus getting warm air)
Step 4: Bring it to a shop, you may have a plugged heater core, an malfunctioning Thermostat, or an inefficient water pump...Hope this helps.

As for the A/c Not cooling...All cars that are 96 or newer must be charged with R-134a refrigerant...This can only be serviced by a shop that can deal with A/C recharging...could be low refrigerant, bad a/c clutch, bad compressor good luck hope this help

My 1999 ford windstar is only blowing cold air and no heat

possable problems:

1. coolant leak (level too low to fill heater core)
2. headgasket leak forcing the coolant out of the overflow.
3. stuck thermostat.
4. bad water pump. if the impelers are broken, coolant wont flow.
5. HVAC malfunction. system may think you selected cold or is unable to move diverter. maybe a fuse, solenoid or vaccum leak? (hvac controler uses vaccume controled soleniods)
6. airlock. if you have resently changed your coolant, you may need to repeatedly squeeze the heater core hose to help force out the air.

2003 Grand Prix not blowing hot air. Does the heater coil need to be replaced? If so where is it located?

If the heater coil was bad, it would be leaking radiator fluid... probably into your dash/floorboard (depending on where it is installed in your model car). There is a switch that diverts the hot radiator fluid through the heater coil when you want heat. There is also an air diverter valve that helps to mix the hot and cold air. The fluid valve is controlled by the A/C settings control. The one that you use to choose between heater/air conditioner/vent/ defrost. The air diverter is controlled by the temp mixing controller. The most simple explanation is that one of those valves or the controller of one of those valves is not working. If the hot water cant be diverted through the heater coil, the coil can't exchange the heat (warming the air). If the air diverter (hot/cold controller) cant move to add heat, then all you will feel is air from the vent side (from outside) or from the A/C cooling the air.

I would guess that its either a controller or one of the valves themselves. Odds are, it is a controller. That tends to be what malfunctions first.

Takes too long to get heat in the cabin sometimes if you turn the heat knob.. temp left to right it heats faster is this controller a reostat type

I don't think its a variable resistor or rheostat. I think its an actual I/O switch that controls smaller solenoids maybe up to three that divert air in places and open a door or close a door to the heater core that should be very hot. It may be a malfunctioning switch or a divert er solenoid or one of the solenoid could be broken because it is just plastic. The last thing i would check (not to be rude) is your coolant level a low level wont circulate your heater core making it quite cool.good luck hope this helps.

My 2004 malibu does not blow hot air when in the heating position. the blower works and only blows cold air.thermostat seems fine.

What makes you think the thermostat is fine? First thing I would check is the level of your antifreeze to see if it's up to the correct level. If it is then thermostat is my next culprit and if it is in fact OK then it might be the water pump or plugged up heater core.

Heater doesn't work. A/C works and air blows, but no heat. Flushed antifreeze and replaced thermostat already. Help.

There are 3 possible cases: 1- The Flap Divert air direction valve for air flowing through the heater core is not doing its job. 2- The heater core gets clogged up. 3- The valve to control amount of hot coolant flow to heater core gets stuck. Let's check if the water can flow to the heater core first, by disconnect the output hose from heater core while running the engine with heater set up at maximum level to see if coolant flowing out. Catch this coolant with a container to refill it back. This way you can eliminate # 2 and # 3. Good luck.

Install new motor in 91 jeep 4.0L all new parts (water pump ,rad, hoses, plugs... ran fine going down hill started to over heat.. when to a shop and they check thermostat. seem ok replace and drove home...

You probably have an air lock. Remove a heater hose and get all the air out. Then run it with the rad cap off until it warms up. You should see the water level drop when it finally goes, or if you got the air out with the heater hose, it should be okay.

Heater won't heat up

Where the rubber hose goes into the heater, there should be an air switch that opens an closes a shut off to the heater coil try it manual it should open an close by hand
