ABS is a self monitoring system not part of the OBD 2 system. If there is a light on it indicates a fault is present. Disconnecting the battery will do nothing if there is a hard fault present. Volvo has lots of issues with this. The ABS/Tracs control module has solder joints that go bad in the control module 99% of the time it is the issue. Have the module repaired/replaced. 35 years working Volvo's professionally

ABS light comes on with ignition then should go off when you start the car.

If abs sensor does not turn off after disconnecting the battery, then
there is a real problem, a faulty sensor or ABS malfunctioning.

When the ABS led comes on immediately after you start the car and stays on usually is one of the relays.

The main one is called surge arrester relay, if it is faulty usually there have been an

There should be two more, usually located behind the black plastic cover of the ABS.

Testing and changing the faulty relay can fix the problem.

If light turns off on startup, and comes back on when you reach some
speed, usually you need to check the wheel sensors. You test them
unplugging the sensor located behind the wheel and testing it for
    continuity with a multimeter.

Use Haynes manual to find locations and specs of relays.

Contact a qualified mechanic if you cannot fix it yourself, problems with ABS may compromise safety of the vehicle.

I forgot to mention, that also a fault to the ABS computer module can cause same problems, in this case the mechanic replaces the whole ABS module (about $1000).
    Check relays first.

2012 GMC SAvana abs stay on no DTC

Hi there,

In order for the ABS light to remain illuminated (when it shouldn't be), the OBD computer is telling you there is a fault somewhere.

Therefore, the OBD computer MUST trigger DTC's, in order to inform of malfunction.

So, its important you have your codes extracted correctly

How do i reset an ABS light on a 2001 chevy venture

have you checked for codes and or made a repair?

if the light comes on and stays on as soon as you start the vehicle than the ABS computer has detected a fault. If the fault had corrected itself the light would have turned off by itself. Clearing the codes with the fault still present will not turn off the light.

If you made a repair and the light is still on than it is not fixed.

Let me know which of the two scenarios above you are dealing with and I'll be happy to help you further.

What causes abs light to be on

The abs light being on indicates the presence of a fault somewhere in the abs system & the system has been disabled.
Fortunately the design of the system is fail-safe so that your brakes will work just as if you didn't have the abs feature. The only time to be concerned about safety is when the red brake warning lamp illuminates steadily.
There are self-diagnostic capabilities in the abs controller so you could have the memory of that unit readout at a dealer to learn what may be wrong with it. Lot of times it's just a wheel sensor.

Good luck, i hope this helps.
