Question about 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

PO336 code My wife drives a 98 malibu LS 3.1 V6. Last week the check engine light came on and showed a PO336 error code. I had the crankshaft position sensor and the harmonic balancer replace. The code was then cleared. The check engine light came back on after just a few minutes. What else could cause this code?

I put a 2004 Chevy Malibu Engine in my 2002 Chevy Malibu. A few things changed and without replacing my existing wiring harness I used my fuel rail and injectors and my plennum. The camshaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor both changed in size and they both have three wires instead of two. I used the 2002 harmonic balancer because it had also changed. Will this work?

My 2004 crossfire has done this twice in the last six weeks, and its dangerous as it does it when your driving! Engine just cuts out, then restarts as per normal around 20mins later. Does anyone know...

Check to see if the engine is running hot. This will happen when the engine runs hot. After it has cooled down, then it starts back up until it runs too hot again. If that's the case it could be the thermostat.

Where is the crank positioning sensor located on a 98 chevy malibu 4 cylinder

if a 2.2 four-cylinder, remove the starter motor. disconnect the 7x crankshaft position wiring and harness connector. remove crankshaft retaining bolt and withdraw sensor from engine block. replace the "O" ring and lightly lubricate it with new engine oil. installation is reverse of removal. have a good one !!

Codes

I punched in code po336 for a bing search,
and it says that it could be
PO336
Crankshaft Position Sensor Signal Range / Performance
But it may be for another car.

What was your engine size and submodel? My reference on the Internet didn't have fault codes for your vehicle.

I have the same problem. My Lincoln Ls wrench light comes on and it quits. All spark plugs, all coils and the throttle body has been replaced. I think the LS model is a lemon! Any information or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks, Betty
