Try starting now. If knocking still, turn off immediately. Pull the engine oil dip stick with the engine off and check the oil level. If a foamy brown fluid (or droplets of water) is on the dip stick and it appears overfilled then water got into your oil and may have damaged the motor. You may be lucky if you have the oil/water mix removed and fresh oil and filter installed. Try running then and see if any better.
the electrnic power contro; is like a check engine light. there is a code . as the oil does sounds like a bad oil sending sensor is for the oil level. and as the level on the dip stick some times oil is so clean it is hard see on the stick
STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY OR AS SOON AS YOU SAFELY CAN PULL OVER. YOU WILL DESTROY THE ENGINE WITHIN MILES. CHECK THE ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK WITH ENGINE OFF. IF THERE'S OIL IN IT. HAVE IT TOWED. IF THERE IS NO OIL ON DIP STICK ADD OIL TO FULL LINE AND START ENGINE. LOOK FOR LIGHT TO GO OFF, HOPEFULLY. LISTEN FOR KNOCKING AND LOOK FOR BLUE, WHITE OR GREY SMOKE FROM EXHAUST. LOOK FOR WET AREAS WHERE OIL MAYBE LEAKING OUT UNDER CAR OR OIL STAINS WHERE CAR IS USUALLY PARKED. HAVE A SHOP CHECK FOR ENGINE DAMAGE.
Make sure the engine is off and pop the hood. look on the right or left hand side for the dip stick. Pull it out and wipe it off and then reinsert it and pull it back out. Look to see where the oil level is on the dip stick. Fill accordinly. One notch on the stick is one quart of oil. If you refill the oil and start it up and the lights do not go off then it will be safe to drive it to the shop. Oil is in it. However, If there is loud tap tap tapping noise coming from the motor after the oil if full do not drive it. You have probably lost the oil pump and the engine is not getting oil. if you hear no noises and the oil light is still on you can drive it safely to the shop. Let me know how it turns out, Raz
If the car will not start back up (won't crank or turn over) you are in big trouble. Because that means the engine is seized up and will require either a new engine or a re-manufactured unit. Did the oil pressure light (or any light for that matter) illuminate on the dash. If no turn the key to ignition not run, and see if the oil light illuminates, it should, if it dosen't either the bulb is blown, the sending unit is bad or the wiring is open. My guess is all the oil shot out of the dipstick, ran low on oil and the engine seized up. I'm sure this isn't the answer you were looking for but good luck. Sorry about your misfortune.
