Question about 1998 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

No Start My Taurus broke down a few months ago and I had to get a mechanic to rebuild my engine... This morning it started just fine and as I was going down the road it turned off on me and will not start. What could be the problem? I can't afford another engine.

Was it hot or overheated?? I have not had a instances of an alt making a burning smell like plastic, but a few more questions might clear this up, is the battery ok, is this a no crank no start, or a crank no start??

If it is turning over test to see if you have got a spark if not then your coil might have burnt out.

Will not start, no clicking sound from starter. any Ideas to start troubleshooting?

It would appear that that your starter itself is bad. You don't have to remove it to have it tested but you will have to get it started to get it to a CARQUEST or somewhere like that.

Stalls losing electric power

How old is the battery & have you tested it?
How is it that a month went by & your using
any vehicle that could let you down?
Why have all issues not been resolved ,as soon
as they started?
Have you checked for codes?
Have you had a professional scan tool on it
& checked data, that has to be done along with
many other checks or tests, unless it's just a battery
issue.
No one can solve any vehicle issue over the internet
There is always more to the story & you need the patient

check compression on each cylinder and fuel pressure,I dont know if you have the tools, but for that engine whit 200,000 miles,I think the compression is down,at least you got to have 75 of compression on each cylinder.

1999 taurus. 6 cyl OHV. Ran fine over the weekend. Parked car in driveway. Started this morning. Heard high(RPM) pitch winding sound coming from engine or tranmission. Noticed will not reverse or move into...

Check for vacuum lines going to transmission or any vacuum line under hood. It is possible an animal chewed on the lines or wires. We get a few reports of that at Fixya.

You might also look under the dash by the pedals for a vacuum leak. There are vacuum switches for parking brake release and the neutral start switch.

Turn the key but nothing happens all electrics

Not all replacement parts are good. I would guess that the new ignition switch is bad. Its also possible that the wiring harness is loose where its connected to the ignition switch. You could try jiggling the wires.

Problem starting

hello with out being able to see the car and based on what your explaining i would have your mechanic check the idle air control valve (iac motor) common problem on gm if the throttle bore is varnished the pintle on the end can stay stuck in the bore causing erratic idle ,stalling ,hestitation, even no start conditions
