Question about 1997 Hyundai Elantra
I got really dirty fuel from servo and had to replace Filter and fluch line. Car was running hairy. replaced plugs and checked leads still running hairy. took injectors out to and got reconditioned by pro and now car won't start at all.
I checked the fuel, flow is good checked the pots, they are getting fuel. plenty of spark but. fires up but wont run. smells like it is flooding but won't even run for 5 secs :-(
It is like it has immobiliser on. but isn't!
not sure what else to check??

Check vacuum and/or electrical connections at the fuel pressure regulator, usually located on the fuel rail near the line from the gas tank. It sounds like your regulator is being held 'wide open' by too much vacuum or no signal from ECU.

Is your check engine light on? I have the same probelm with my 2002 Elantra. I think it may be connected to the O2 sensor with regulates the emissions, and can cause poor fuel economy. I know I need to get it fixed, but am waiting for funds to do so. Does it seem worse after you fill it with gas? I am just curious since that is what mine does.

SOURCE: 2003 Hyundai Sonata with 4
P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak at cylinder
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1
Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.
