Fuel System problem

I have a 1996 Ford Thunderbird V8......Ok so Ive been having issues with my Tbird...It was driving fine all morning long went to the gym went home purred like a kitten.....got on the Highway and is started off fine then all of a sudded....it just started to slow down like i was running out of gas..I have half a tank..and for some reason the car was slowing down to a crawl.I think there is something wrong with my fuel system..I recently replaced the spark plugs and the distributor wires.I had my foot all the way down on the pedal and it maxed out at 10mph...I though that it was a heating problem and that my car over heated...I took out the thermostat and it was almost brand new...The radiator was good fan turned on...car turnes on...it takes a couple of trys but it turns on...but for some reason..everytime I press the gas pedal it reves up to about 2 RPM then it drops and almost turns off completely. I recently spoke to auto zone and they said something about a valve or compressor that is located just off of my OHC to the right it looks like a flying saucer..can someone please give me some insight thanks!! IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I have had the exact same problem, just like that on the highway with my V8 '96 suddenly. I had a tow truck come save me and he said start it up and move it over here, I said it won't but it did! I changed the fuel filter which was nasty looking, hoping that was it. Ran fine for awhile but now I have a problem with letting off on the gas and it just dies on me, and it's hard starting, new plugs and all, but once it's running it purrs as you said but if I don't keep my foot on the gas it just dies. Thinking about changing that emissions valve thing. Any help, non-abusive, from the web would be appreciated.

1996 Ford Thunderbird LX V8 Automatic Transmission shudder

Check rear emergency brakes if you have 4 wheel discs. When soot and brake lining fall to bottom of assembly they jam and shudder until wheels start rolling fast enough to scatter debris.

Also if posi equipped there is a needed rear-end additive to help clutch plates work. Perhaps clean rear-end lube and additive is needed.

The fuel pump is part of the fuel sending unit. Which is located underneath the fuel tank. Purchase a Haynes Repair Manual for your year Tbird.

Turned check engine light off by disconnecting battery.Went to start vehicle it started however, will not idle, shuts off.96 tbird v6

Need to check the engine. It is the 02 sensor sensing too rich or too lean fuel mixture. Or one of them is defective.
