Question about 1990 Honda Civic

Engine runs bad at half tank or less

My 90 honda civic has been acting like it's running out of gas when i reach a quarter of a tank or less, the fuel pump is new the filter is new the air filter is new, it goes away completly when i put more gas in it, the gas gauge is also correct, i thought there might be water in the fuel so i tried a water removel treatment, but why would it be fine when i put more fuel in it??? The problem seems to be getting worse meaning it is running worse up to a half a tank of fuel. any ideas???

won't start acted like was starving for gas. tryed to start a few times but wouldn't stay running long enough to pick up. put gas in it that day and thought might have got water. put gas treatment in it thought of pulling it to see if it would pick it up.

Ok ready for this one,new gas cap,its true cars with bad gas caps will cause the check engine light go on,or your problem,it has to be pressurized when full and no air in the tank its ok,but as you use gas and have air in the tank with the low fuel the air pressure is leaking pass the cap, thus losing pressure, too bad you had to fix all the other stuff but look at it as an investment, after this works please give me a fix ya thanks

Hello James, It sounds to me that the gasoline pick up tube has come off of the electric fuel pump. The tube should reach to the bottom of the tank.

Hiccups after running below a quarter tank and then getting fuel.

For a 1989 Honda Civic, to remove the fuel pump after you've removed the tank, disconnect the fuel lines and connector, then remove the fuel pump mounting nuts. If there's a ring, unscrew it to remove the fuel pump. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

check the hose in the fuel tank, the hose going out of the tank may have holes causing the fuel to go out and back to the tank.

YOU NEED FILL GAS TANK A HALF OF FULL OF GAS.IF GAS TANK GET TOO LOW OR EMPTY.I CAUSE FUEL PUMP OVERHEAT WHICH WILL DESTROY IT.GAS KEEP FUEL PUMP COOL AND IT LUBRICATES IT KEEP IT RUNNING.

I think the fuel has gone bad. it's cloging the injector ports. Try this first remove all fuel from the tank, replace the fuel filter. add 5 gallons of fuel and one bottle of fuel treatment. Run the engine for an hour
this will allow all of varnish from the bad fuel to disolve and clean the injectors. Don't be suprised
if this doesn't totally elimnate the problem chances are the plugs are fouled and need to be replaced also. Good luck
Hope this helps

Try checking the snorkel tube between the air cleaner and the intake. Open the hood, and have a friend try to rev the engine, and watch the tube...my '92's was collapsing and starving the engine, couldn't get more than 3500-4000 rpm. Could also be a fuel pump problem like low pressure or bad line.
