Can I use another type of trany oil not Honda Premium Formula Auto Trans Fluid?

  • oscar2w Jul 14, 2008

trany flush seems different than drain/refill fluid. could someone explain the difference between them? I've heard that have trany flush will cause trany damaged, is it true?

You can use Lube Guard friction modifier to convert Dexron 3 to Honda spec. It has a red cap & should be available from O'reiily Auto Parts. What you will get with Dexron/Mercon is a harsh shift. I have flushed & saved many Honda's by doing this. If your Honda is a V-6, then be advised that there were major problems with those transmsissions & can be quite expensive to rebuild.

1997 accord lx hard shifting, what can i do?

If it's automatic, drain the trans fluid and clean the magnetic drain bolt. Remove and clean the screens on the two solenoids on the front of the transmission. Honda does NOT recommend flushing your transmission with any solvents. Refill to the correct level according to your owner's manual.

If it's a manual transmission, change your gear oil in the transmission according to your owner's manual and hope it's not your synchros.

2000 accord ex w/ 4 cylinder engine. The light around the D4 (indicating gear) flashes and the car accelerates very slowly in cold weather until the engine gets warm. What is wrong? How to fix?''

The D4 indicator light flashing indicates that your car's computer believes that there is something wrong with your transmission.

This is what the manual for your 2000 Accord says:

The "D4" indicator comes on for a few seconds when you turn the ignition switch ON (II). If it flashes while driving (in any shift position), it indicates a possible problem in the transmission. Avoid rapid acceleration and have the transmission checked by an authorized Honda dealer as soon as possible.

Sometimes this will mean that you are simply low on transmission fluid, but you really should have it checked.

Hope this helps you.

Have a 2006 Honda Accord auto. What is the difference between and transmission flush or just topping it with fluid. What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Flush is a total fluid exchange. Topping off is filling the unit when level has become low. Total exchange involves equipment to replenish all fluid. A drain and refill will not get all of the fluid exchanged due to a couple quarts are in the torque converter.

I have a 2002 Honda Accord with Auto Trans. I

i would check the transaxle fluid first, if it is fine, I would then take it and change the fluid and filter. if this does not correct it, quite possibly the transaxle is faulty, sorry, I hope that the fluid corrects it for you, thanks

Auto Trans 96

Sounds like radiator problem mixing coolant with oil. Will need to change rad, flush transmission thoroughly to remove contaminated fluid, being sure torque converter flushed as well, then re-assemble everything, & put new fluid & filter in transmission, and hope like heck, too much damage hasn't already occurred. This might be a job for a tranny shop that can flush that system properly, if you have one in area that you trust.

98 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC Auto-Tiptronic Transmission Problems

I own a 1999 Honda Prelude base model with a automatic sequential tiptronic trans. If your willing to try a couple of things you might get lucky a save your trans. If my suggestions doesn't help your trans
performance then it time to pull out the pocket book. Drain the trans
fluid. Flush the cooler. Remove the 2 solenoid right by the starter motor. Most likely the 2 metal screens are plugged up. Clean them up with parts cleaner. Then wire the solenoids to a battery so when you spray into them with the parts cleaner you can energize the solenoids while spraying cleaner into the 2 ports. The purpose of this is to free up anything that could be making the solenoids stick. Reassemble the
solenoids back onto the trans. Fill the trans with 3 Qts. of OEM Honda fluid. Run the gears through the gears. Then drain that fluid. Do this one more cycle. On the last fill pour a bootle of Lube Guard Additive to condtion the fluid. Good Luck

"is there a plug to drain tranny fluid on a 94 accord with auto

You must either drop the pan or have a transmission flush performed. The filter is only a screen so most people use a transmission flush for this issue.

Automatic transmission slipping

if it is slipping and the trans fluid level is within specs then the forward clutch pack in the trans is worn out and you need an overhaul.
