won't start - 82059263 The [PG] starter motors are [non-]repairable starter motors. They have pole pieces that are arranged around the armature within the starter housing. When the solenoid windings are energized, the pull-in winding circuit is completed to ground through the starter motor. The hold-in winding circuit is completed to ground through the solenoid. The windings work together magnetically to pull in and hold in the plunger. The plunger moves the shift lever. This action causes the starter drive assembly to rotate on the armature shaft spline as it engages with the flywheel ring gear on the engine. At the same time, the plunger closes the solenoid switch contacts in the starter solenoid. Full battery voltage is then applied directly to the starter motor and it cranks the engine.

As soon as the solenoid switch contacts close, current stops flowing thorough the pull-in winding as battery voltage is now applied to both ends of the windings. The hold-in winding remains energized; its magnetic field is strong enough to hold the plunger, shift lever, starter drive assembly, and solenoid switch contacts in place to continue cranking the engine. When the engine starts, the pinion gear overrun protects the armature from excessive speed until the switch is opened.

When the ignition switch is released from the START position, crank voltage is removed from the starter solenoid S terminal. Current flows from the motor contacts through both windings to ground at the end of the hold-in winding. However, the direction of the current flow through the pull-in winding is now in the opposite direction of the current flow when the winding was first energized.

The magnetic fields of the pull-in and hold-in windings now oppose one another. This action of the windings, along with the help of the return spring, cause the starter drive assembly to disengage and the solenoid switch contacts to open simultaneously. As soon as the contacts open, the starter motor is turned off.

Here is the wiring circuit for the NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH which is what I believe to be your problem, do the reverse lights come on when the keky is ON and the transmission selector is in REVERSE? IF NOT you have a renge selector problem.
if you find this information helpful please give me a good rating and please contact me if you need any further assistance.
Thank you, Randy

Car won t start not battery

rule 1> check all fuses.
rule 2> clean battery lugs.

this is NO CRANK, no car starts , if it can't crank over, (mine i can push start (m/t trannys rule)
step 1 is jumper starting, with jumper cables.
if it starts, the battery is bad, or simple discharged.
if it dont jumper start. then the starting system is bad.
no transmission stated?
the A/T you wiggle the shiftlever, to start.
or start in NEUTRAL, this uses fresh start contacts.

if you get this far and it will NOT crank over
then hot wire the starter.
if that works, then the starter is good and the key line is bad
if the starter is still dead hot wired, the starter is bad (battery good )

I have an Acura Cl 3.0 1999. It has drove fine sick I bought it a year ago. I drove to the gas station turned it off, filled up with gas, went to turn it back on and nothing. Only sound is two clicks from...

if it dont crank how would you say the starter is good.
you dont know that. sorry'
making assumptions is the top killer of all diagnosis.
you set in driver seat:
i key on, is the CEL ,charge and BRAKE lamps glowing
if not you lost all power ,12vdc to dash and ignition.
they must glow, if not the battery is drained or a fuse is blow.
check all fuses , now.
if all those normal lamps glow, (warnings) per the operator guide.
the good, you have 12v power.
proceed to cranking..
"as they say, Call the Auto Club time"
the first check, is called a jumper cable jump start off a running car.
if that works, then the starter is good and the battery was ONLY discharged. (no assumptions. see?)

then and only then could you say, starter is good. see?
if the car JUMP passes ,then battery bad or charge system failure....
(ask for help that topic, "my battery is drained, why?"
if the JUMP fails (to other cars battery)
we then hot wire the starter, does starter crank fast and robustly>>?
yes?, then the key line is bad.
no ?, then the starter is bad. or its 2 huge cables are bad.

YES?? starter hot wires good. then? !!!!
see the tricks here,
my guess is this car is A/T tranny, Automatic.

this page also teaches , hotwiring any starter , safely.

How can I jump the starter on my 91 camaro?

hot wire starter you can short out ignition switch and wiring. to jump starter ignition switch start postion.you have to run 10 gauge jumper wire from the starter solenoid positive battery terminal to starter switch or S terminal on starter solenoid this procedure take two people but better remove starter replace starter solenoid. trying jumping off starter on camaro would be dangerous you have jack up car to get to starter and wiring person laying under car hot wiring starter while other person hold ignition start position put person under car in deadly position just remove starter have auto parts check it out first replace starter or solenoid if either bad. easier hot wire starter if starter under hood like my 1977 vega monza had starter at top could take long screw driver jump starter off.on the four cylinders engines back in the 70s. camaro starter under car dangerous trying to hot wire not a good idea.

Car won't start without a jump but battery okay

wont crank or wont start.??
no car starts , if it cant crank. (unless push starter (M/T magic)
that is not a trans sensor its the PRN switch.
ill answer for, wont CRANK !
it wont crank even with a good battery (charged) or jump started.
1: bad start
2: bad wires to same.
so hot wire the starter small wire, the key start line is tiny.
cranks. , starter good, no crank starter bad or cables bad.
if it cranks hot wired, then the key line is dead.
easy, huh?

2005 Altima won't start, hear clicking sound coming from fuse box,key stuck in ingintion, won;t turn over, tried to jump start.

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

Hello, My Hyundai will not start, i think it might be the starter, but the battery is good and all the lights work and everything, but when I go to start it, I have nothing. I won't crank, click,...

check on the fuse box, am sure that a starter fuse is blown. the alternator might be the causer. as you said you changed it not so long. When you find out the fuse are ok, check also the solnoid wire on the starter motor beside the main wire, when that is good then might be the carbon brushes are won need to be replaced

Ignition relay or fuse could be the problem. When you turn the key to start do you hear a fuel pump kicking on and or do you have spark when you hot wire the starter (I know it's hard to check while trying to start it)? You can email me back and I might be able to pinpoint it more.

Sounds like the starter itself has gone bad. If you can access it easily you can try to jump across the solenoid. Use a jumper wire from the hot lead to the exciter lead. If your not comfortable doing that DONT. Im pretty certain your starter is bad.
