cheaper and easier to have gone to a dealer or an authorized locksmith and have keys cut using vin number ---need to get a repair manual unknown what problem would be because the directional switch only screws in one way
Easier to replace the whole steering column from a junkyard than it is to remove an ignition without a key. Locksmith is cheaper and faster. Key can be made using vin number, your ID and registration at the FORD dealership. I have had a mobile locksmith that usually goes to car auctions make one super fast. There is a set of "masters" they can copy your key from.
You will have to remove all the cowlings from the steering column to access the ignition lock and switch. With the correct key inserted and selected to, probably, the ACC position, you should be able to push on either a pin or a tongue that protrudes from the switch into the housing and the pull the whole lock/switch mechanism out.
To change the ignition switch you need to remove the cowls around the steering column to expose the ignition switch. Once you have done that re-insert the key and place it in the ACC position (this is the position for most switches). Look around the lock housing to locate a pin or tongue in the housing, With the key in this position, it should be possible to extract the lock and switch with the steering lock attached. On most vehicles it will be possible to change the switch only, but some the whole mock mechanism will have to be replaced as a unit.
no might to it but it is called a(ignition switch) to but it is the electrical part (not key and lock cylnder.)..you can go look one up on autozone.com so u know what ur looking for
Dave , I have one in my cj5. The info I got on it was that it was out of a Cadillac Fleetwood from 69-1976. I was able to get a switch from Rock auto for it.It is basicly the same as any other GM column. They were also use in other gm models in those years. Larry [email protected]
The plastic ignition actator (plastic gear drive) has lost the steel pin pressed on the end of it. This thing connects the mechanical key ignition switch to the electrical ignition switch(with pin gone will push ignition on BUT with pin gone cannot PULL ign. switch to off position),the whole steering column will have to be removed from truck to replace.Availible from Ford or parts stores--ASK for plastic ignition actuator-metal one is for 1987 to 1991 F150s.
you take off the stearing wheel and under it there is a spot that you slide a flat head into and push a little tab on the lock cylender to release. its kinda hard to find but good luck
