Question about 1990 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Blower motor has only low speed

My Toyoya blower stopped working. I found blower resistor broken and replaced it with the used one (from Toyota 1992 old car.) Now it only works at the lowest speed and the small resistor is red hot.

My 1990 Toyota Corolla had the same problem. I replaced bkoken resistor and it worked only at the lowest speed. I then replaced the heater speed switch and it worked fine.

You may need to get the correct resistor, as they are designed to only allow so much amperage to go through them. If it is getting very hot it is runnig to many amps through it. It will eventually blow and you will need to replace it anyway.

1992 chevy C1500: Heat works on low speed, no medium, and high only works intermittantly.

On any other vehicle it sounds like the blower fan switch.
The fan switch provides power or ground to the resistor and there would be a high speed blower relay to bypass the resistor.
But in your case the fan switch is part of the controller.
I don't have a diagram for a 92 but the 94 model shows relays for low medium and high speeds. Each relay gets power from a fuseable link. The high relay gets power thru the low relay if the low relay is not engaged.
If you have the model with 3 relays you may need to check them.

My turns signals and Heater blower just went out completely - Cabin fuses look OK - Suspect fusible link in engine compartment fuse box

Its faulty blower motor resistor. The low and medium speed on blower motor is controlled by resistor and its actual speed is high. So because resistor is not working, blower motors actual speed which is high is working.

It can be faulty blower motor or faulty blower motor resistor. Get the blower motor inspected. If it's faulty it has to be replaced.

The blower will not blowair

Hi,
Commonly caused by a bad 'blower resistor'. You'll need to search online - Google: Safari blower resistor or Astro Blower resistor - on WHERE the resistor is located.

Poof no blower motor

unhook power lead to blower motor. use a test lite to see if you have power at that point. if you do the blower motor is toast. if no power trace back to swithch. why did you change the resistor?

My car is RAV4 toyota blow fan not working on 1,2,3 but #4 working only I replace switch but same as before,Please would give what I do next. Thank you.

Sounds like you have a bad blower motor resistor (manual HVAC). The resistor is just that a set of resistors in serious that drop voltage to regulate fan speed. Speed one uses all the resistors to drop the voltage the most. Speed for doesn't use the resistors so full power can be used by the blower motor to make it work at full speed.

The resistor is typically located near the blower motor under the passenger side of the dash. and will have 4-5 wires going to it.
