I have a 1997 mercury villager the dashboard lights come on the battery and the brake light on the dash all sometimes the gas light ,the radio goes in and out i have bought a new battery and tested the alternator, also i forgot the major problem after all the lights come on the car will shutdown and wont jump

The alternator is not charging the battery. Could be a bad connection bugt usually it's the alternator that's bad. The Villager & Quest both turn on the battery light and the brake light when the charging system is not working porperly
you can try the brake light switch.. it is located under dash ..follow the brake pedal up you will see a switch ... unplug wires and use a paper clip or piece of wire to to jump... if brake light comes on replace switch.....
