Driving down the road and the car just turns off, lights are strong, heater coms on, it wont re-start..have gas in it.. the oil light comes on and stays on when i try to re-start. Wont turn over.. ??????

Its time for another car Jerry. The oil pressure light was telling you the engine was running on less than 10 psi of oil pressure, and the knock was a rod or main bearing. Now that the engine has been run low on oil pressure for some time, one of the rod or main bearings is junk, and so is the engine. By the time you replace the engine, even with a used one, you could take the same money and buy another car. Even if you took the engine apart and fixed the bad bearings, the rest of the engine parts are very weak from running without oil.
mcdevito75 here, Sounds like you have real troubles with your car, the oil in the spark plugs could be the valve seals, a dirty spark plug will make the engine shake like crazy. Your other problem with the engine Rev up and down, could be a slipping transmission, have your car checked at your local shop.
try changing your pcv valve. if its dirty it may be causing the shuttering. as for the check engine light going on and off, you may have a bad gas cap. if the cap is faulty it will cause the engine light to come on at times because of a poor air to fuel ratio.
your engine needs flushed .what is going on is idle has less pressure than driving and the sump is picking up dirt and debris but when you turn off or idle the debris falls off the sump.
when you press the brake pedal the brake master cylinder vacuum booster takes vacuum away from the engine and that slows the idle speed just enough to trigger the low pressure oil light. Pull the oil pressure sending unit out and hook up an oil pressure test gage, if the pressure is above 15 PSI hot engine idle in drive replace the oil pressure sending unit.
