The temperature sensor would be measuring internal heat. If the transmission fluid reaches critical temperature the sensor would set of the warning.. I don't know if that has anything to do with the stalling. You need to have the computer scanned to find out what is causing the stalling problem.

The a/t oil hot light comes on my 1987 pathfinder automatic transmission 4w drive , what can it be ?

Low fluid, Clogged Filter, Time for a Filter and Fluid Change, bad Pump in the transmission overheating or bad Torque converter. Your going to have to take it to a shop to be sure. if the over temp lite comes on but the transmission is working fine it may also be a faulty sensor.

1988 Nissan Pathfinder, press on gas vehicle sputters then accelerates fine. Drives great but it feels like it lacks something when pressing on gas from a complete stop.

I think it would be a good idea to check your fuel filter....The most likely place for it to be mounted is in the engine compartment, or if not there it'll be underneath, close to the tank.....Regards Johngee

1988 pathfinder no dash lights no revers lights no tail lights no gaiges

If they all stopped working at the same time then it is probably a fuse or possibly 2. Check your fuse panels in the dash and under the hood. The dash lights and gauges should be a fuse labeled instrument cluster or guages, it is probably blown. The other fuse to look for will be the tail light fuse. This is where I would begin.

Stalls out when braking quickly, worse with going down hill

Assuming that the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, it looks like the torque converter lock-up system doesn't release as fast as it should, so if you brake hard, the converter is still locked up and your wheel brakes stall your engine (just like pressing ******* the brakes with the clutch pedal released on a manual transmission vehicle). Normally, when you brake hard, the lock-up should release and prevent the stall from happening. Might be a bad torque converter, or a bad lock up solenoid in the transmission... Before jumping to anything else, i'd try checking the fluid level in the transmission and an oil/filter change in the transmission. Lots of times one or the other can cure the problem.
