1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon - Turn signals quit working

When I shut the car off the turn signals were working. When I started the car again, neither turn signal would work. all other lights work. I have checked the fuses and they seem to be okay. Any suggestions?

I found the flashers. The bottom right just pulls out like a plug. How do I get the top left one out? I have pulled on it and it doesn't seem to budge.

The one that removes easily is for the emergency flasher. I now need to know if they both unplug the same way. I can't get the the 4-way out. How does it come out?

I made a mistake with last comment. The one that removes easily is for the emergency flasher - 4-way. I now need to know if they both unplug the same way. I can't get the turnsignal out. How does it come out?

I finally got the old flasher pryed out and put a new one in. for some reason it blew the new flasher. I replaced both flashers and everything works great.

My turn signals will not work. The emergency flashers are working. I can not find the fuse box so that I can see if that is the problem. Can anyone help me please??

There is a flasher unit that could be bad.It is quite inexpensive and should be located in the area of the fuse box inside the car. There are actually 2 of them, one for the turn signals, and one for the emergency or 4 way flashers. Both should be round, and silver in color.

That could be the problem, right there.First, try your 4 ways,or emergency flashers,to see which flasher unit you did remove. If the 4 ways aren't working with that one removed, then thats likely the 4 way unit that you removed.Let me know.

That most likely is the turn signal flasher unit, that will not remove from the fusebox. It could be a corrosion problem, where the blades of the flasher unit have deteriorated either from repeated moisture exposure,or has welded, eletrically, the blades of the flasher unit to the female connector blades in the fusebox. As a last alternative, disconnect the battery terminals from the battery, both of them.Get a slot head/flat blade medium size screwdriver and GENTLY try and slip the blade in between the flasher unit and fusebox, and very gently try to pry it loose while wiggling it,and from a variety of locarions.

Fuse panel location

the fuse box is located lower dash drivers side ,cover/lid usually has list inside to the fuse locations etc, does the four way switch turn the signal lights on ? if so the fuse for the turn signals is probably the issue , if the four ways don't come on it may be the flaher relay which may be in the interior fuse box but if not the fuse box in the engine compartment is the next place to look, hope this helps

Start by checking the fuses that's simple
than relay than bulbs
last you may have to remove the steering wheel and than replace the entire signal assembly those are pretty much all your options so start with 1 and work your way down the list
