Typically one of the fuel lines is damaged. The line coming from the tank is solid metal, very rare to see it leaking. The flexible lines that go from the metal one to the fuel pump or the one that goes from the fuel pump to the carburetor may be cracked or loose. This is serious stuff that may lead to an engine fire. Repair ASAP. It is a cheap, easy fix, dont worry.

Sounds like all those sensors are going to need replaced. Basically, they are all in charge of metering the air and fuel to the engine, so if they are malfunctioning, the car isn't going to run correctly.

How to clean intake on 2001 vw beetle diesel

Hi Jay, What do you need to clean and why? If the intake is fouled with oil it would seem to me that the turbo has become defective and is leaking oil into the manifold. Let us know what the problem is and if you want to clean the outside or the inside of the ducting and manifold? there is a great big difference. Regards John

2000 VW new Beetle uses a lot of oil, but has no leaks, oil fouls sparkplugs

Do you have the turbo model? If so you could have a bad turbo. You may also have bad valve seals or piston rings. If you have a turbo you can remove the hose or pipe off of the outlet side of your turbo between the turbo and the intake manifold. If there is oil in it your turbo is leaking and will need repaired.

Do you have to remove the intake manifold to change the spark plugs on a 2000 vw beetle with a 2.0L engine

It is not necessary to remove the intake manifold to change the spark plugs on a 2.0L engine. You need a long extention with a flexible spark plug socket at the end. To remove the spark plug boots it is good to have the boot puller designed for this instance. They can be had from a good tool store or one of the mobile tool trucks like Snap-On. The hardest plug to get is the #2. I unclip the fuel injector electrical connector and move it out of the way. Then I pull the boot and move it under the intake so I can get the socket on easily. Reinstall the plugs without the rachet. Just turn the extention by hand so as not to damage any threads. Also put a little never-sieze or something similar on the threads before installation. Then use the rachet to tighten the plugs. Reverse assembly.

My 1999 vw beetle was ticking like oil was low, when i opened the cap there was milky what stuff around cap and top of oil spout .what is that stuff and how do i fix it

You have antifreeze in your oil. It could be a head gasket, but that should make the engine misfire badly. The most likely cause is a leaking intake manifold gasket. I t is imperative that you not drive the car until you have it repaired. The contaminated oil will eventually cause engine failure.

Have a 2001 vw beetle and a check engine code is t1582

17990/P1582/005506 - Idle Adaptation Limit Reached Possible Solutions
  • Check Fuel Pressure
  • Check Intake System for Leaks (False Air)
  • Check Fuel Injector(s)
  • Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve (N80)
  • Check Exhaust System for Leaks
  • Check Secondary Air Injection (AIR) for Leaks
  • Check Vacuum Lines for Leaks
  • Check Throttle Body
Special Notes
  • It may be necessary to remove and clean the Throttle Body and perform a Throttle Body Alignment (TBA)
  • When this fault is stored in the early VW models with the 2.8L VR6 (AAA) and the 2.0L (ABA), it may be necessary to drive the vehicle for a few days for the idle to return to normal after removing and cleaning the Throttle Body.

P0411 Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected
The 4mm inside diameter vaccuum hose gets pinched between the lower intake manifold and the secondary air pump housing, flattening it over time.

P1128 Long Term Fuel Trim Is Too Lean
It is very likely this code is coming up because of the vacuum hose as well.

P103 code in a 98 VW Jetta, 2.0 liter

THAT LEAK IS UN-METERED AIR ENTERING THE ENGINE, FIX IT AND RETEST SYSTEM. P103 IS A MAF CODE. A MAF MEASURES THE AIR ENTERING THE ENGINE, AND BASED THAT AND ON OTHER DATA THE PCM DECIDES THE AMOUNT OF FUEL TO INJECT.
