Check the inside of the distributor cap as well as the rotor for carbon tracking or moisture... Sounds like spark is going astray somewhere (usually shows up as soon as engine is "loaded") There are other things that can do this but that's the most common!!!
Good luck

This sounds like all checks have been done, the oil is fine and the linkage is good, soory to say your trany is in need of a rebuild, sounds like in internal leak or weak pump, i would have a trany shop check it but i can tell you there going to say it news rebuilding. good luck.

I have a 1989 jeep cherokee. Engine runs fine when in park but as soon as you put it into gear it will die. Put it back in park and it will start right back up and run fine. Any ideas?

I would suggest checking for carbon build up around the throttle plate edges and back of throttle plate.it can be cleaned with throttle plate cleaner by CRC company and a old toothbrush.
