Possibly failsafe.Have vehicle scanned for codes,repair codes.If no codes,drop trans pan and evaluate condition of the fluid and pan contents.Also have technician look at cvi's in the data stream of the scan tool.Cvi's are clutch volume indexes,and very good indicators of wear inside the trans.Many things can cause what you are experiencing,inlcuding,but not limited to,input or output speed sensors,solenoid block,transmission control module,or internal trans damage.

it is on the back side of the timing cover driven by the cranckshaft, the repair kit is about $50 , it takes a good solid 4 hr to replace, must remove the radiator and front cross member on top of radiator and headlights.

The dealer would would have these for several hundred or what I used to do is locate them at local salvage yards for around $50 - $125 depending on the who had it. It is very critical to match all numbers that are on the module itself. Let me know if you need further help.

2001 DODGE INTEPID WHERE IS THE COMPUTER
If you are talking about the power control module, the dealer wants $700, check out,,,(www.allcomputerresources.com) where you can buy one for about $250 and they program it before it is shipped. The PCM is located right in front of the fuse box, under the hood, on the driver side of the car.Hope this helps.

This is NOT a NORMAL PROCEDURE for this ENGINE you Have A PROBLEM with Thiing Chain Ect if you need this Done. Have you had Work Done Just Now and this is why you need it tined ? Otherwise there IS Something WRONG the Timing TOLLERANCE is VERY SMALL And SHOULD NEED NO ADJUSTMENT

Check behind the power steering pump, you will find a plastic housing with the lower rad hose hooked to it as well as the steel tube running to the back of the engine feeding the heater. I think there are 3, 10mm bolts holding this housing on.
