What is the problem in the air distribution system is blow air only to bottom...I want the air blow to the front outlet...

    i have a 2001 deville and i recently charged the ac and it only gets cold on the passanger side vents the driver side stay normal and wont get cold..help!!!

DESCRIPTION A manual temperature control (MTC) single zone type heating-A/C system or a manually controlled heater-only system is standard equipment on this model, depending on market.
To maintain the performance level of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, the engine cooling system must be properly maintained. The use of a bug screen is not recommended. Any obstructions in front of the radiator or A/C condenser will reduce the performance of the A/C and engine cooling systems.
The engine cooling system includes the radiator, thermostat, radiator hoses and the engine coolant pump. Refer to 7 - Cooling for more information before opening or attempting any service to the engine cooling system.

All vehicles are equipped with a common heater, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) housing (1). The heating-A/C system combines heating, ventilating and A/C (if equipped) capabilities in a single HVAC housing mounted within the passenger compartment beneath the instrument panel. The HVAC housing includes:
  1. Mode-air doors (2)
  2. A/C evaporator (A/C system only) (3)
  3. Recirculation-air door and actuator (A/C system only) (4)
  4. Blower motor (5)
  5. Mode control cable (6)
  6. Temperature control cable (7)
  7. Heater core (8)
  8. Blend-air door (9)
On heater-only systems, the A/C evaporator is omitted from the HVAC housing and is replaced with an air restrictor plate.
Based upon the system mode selected, conditioned air can exit the standard heater-only or optional heater-A/C housing through one or a combination of the three main housing outlets: defrost, panel or floor. The defrost and panel outlets are located on the top of the HVAC air distribution housing and the floor outlets are located on each side of the distribution housing. Once the conditioned air exits the HVAC housing, it is further directed through molded plastic ducts to the various outlets within the vehicle interior. These outlets and their locations are as follows:
  1. Defroster Outlet- A single large defroster outlet is located in the center of the instrument panel top cover, near the base of the windshield.
  2. Side Window Demister Outlets- There are two side window demister outlets, one is located at each outboard end of the instrument panel top cover, near the belt line at the A-pillars.
  3. Panel Outlets- There are four panel outlets in the instrument panel, one located near each outboard end of the instrument panel facing the rear of the vehicle and two located near the top of the instrument panel center bezel.
  4. Front Floor Outlets- There are two front floor outlets, one located on each side of the center tunnel near the dash panel.
  5. Rear Floor Outlets- There are two rear floor outlets, one located on each side of the floor panel center tunnel near the front of each rear seat foot well.
  6. REMOVAL
    WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

Heat not working


Sounds like the air blend door is not opening to let heat in.

Engine coolant is provided to the heater system by two 16 mm (5/8 inch inside diameter) heater hoses. With the engine idling at normal running temperature, set the heater-A/C controls as follows. Temperature control to full Heat, Mode control to Floor, Blower control to the highest speed setting. Using a test thermometer, check the air temperature coming from the center floor outlets and compare this reading to the Temperature Reference table.

If the floor outlet air temperature is insufficient, check that the cooling system is operating to specifications. Both heater hoses should be HOT to the touch (the coolant return hose should be slightly cooler than the supply hose). If the coolant return hose is much cooler than the supply hose, locate and repair the engine coolant flow obstruction in heater system.

POSSIBLE LOCATIONS OR CAUSE OF OBSTRUCTED COOLANT FLOW
If coolant flow is verified and the heater floor outlet temperature is insufficient, a mechanical problem may exist.

POSSIBLE LOCATION OR CAUSE OF INSUFFICIENT HEAT
  • Obstructed cowl air intake.
  • Obstructed heater system outlets.
  • Blend-air door not functioning properly.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
If heater floor outlet temperature cannot be adjusted with the heater-A/C control temperature control lever, one of the following could require service:

A/C NOT BLOWING THROUGH FRONT VENTS...2004 ARMADA


The distribution of the air in your car is controlled by little vacuum powered doors in the vent system (inside the dash). You either have a vacuum hose that is disconnected or one of the air valves that runs the door is bad. With the engine running, put your head down under the dash and see if you can hear a hissing noise. If you can, it is a loose hose and just need to be reconnected-not an easy task as there is not much room to work.

check or loss of vacuum to mode control switch in dash ac control. these are not blend doors, they are air flow control, a blend door controls the air temperature not where it comes out.

sounds like you need a new air distribution box, mor than likely a plastic link on the box is broken. Do you hear any motors trying to change the air flow?

SECTION 412-01: Air Distribution and Filtering 2001 Focus Workshop Manual DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Air Distribution and Filtering The new heating and ventilation system ensures even air distribution.
The temperature control and air distribution flaps are controlled by two operating cables. All vehicles have a recirculated air function, with the flap controlled by a servo motor.
Air is supplied to the windscreen and side windows regardless of the air distribution setting.
The clean air filter is fitted as standard in most countries. This cleans the incoming fresh air of pollen and dirt particles. It must be renewed after every 40,000 km under normal operation conditions, or after 20,000 km under difficult conditions. If no clean air filter is installed, a plastic grille is fitted over the air intake. This can easily be replaced with a clean air filter.
Air distribution operating switch
Face level The main flow of air enters the passenger compartment at face level.
Face level/floor level The main flow of air enters the passenger compartment in equal parts at face level and floor level, and a small amount flows to the demister nozzles of the side windows.
Floor level The main flow of air enters the passenger compartment at floor level, and a smaller amount flows to the demister nozzles of the side windows.
Demist/floor level The main flow of air enters the passenger compartment in equal parts at the windscreen and at floor level, and a smaller amount flows to the demister nozzles of the side windows.

The air distribution switch operates with two Bowden cables. The cables operate the air distribution valves in the heater housing.
To remove and install the cables, the rotary switch must be turned as far as it will go to the left. The air flap mechanism engages easily in this position, making the installation of the cables easier.

    Install the components in reverse order.

There are 2 sources of air available to the air distribution system:
  • Outside air
  • Recirculated air
Recirculated air is automatically used when the electronic manual temperature control mode selector is set in the MAX A/C or OFF modes and can be selected in any mode other than MAX A/C, OFF or DEFROST by selecting the RECIRC button. Recirculated air is available in all modes except DEFROST. If the vehicle is equipped with an electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) system, recirculated air is used in OFF and is available in all modes except DEFROST. RECIRC mode is a timed function in FLOOR and FLOOR/DEFROST.
Air distribution within the vehicle is determined by the electronic manual temperature control (EMTC) function selector switch position, or is controlled by the EATC system in the AUTOMATIC mode. The air distribution mode on EATC vehicles may be overridden by the driver if desired. Air distribution doors are used to direct airflow within the heater core and evaporator core housing and the plenum chamber. An electronic mode door actuator is used to position these air distribution doors. One air inlet mode door is used to switch between FRESH or RECIRC air inlet. An electric actuator is used to position the air inlet mode door.
Air enters the passenger compartment from the:
  • instrument panel A/C registers.
  • heater outlet floor ducts.
  • windshield defroster duct.
  • side window demisters.
  • center flow-through console (if equipped).
Passenger compartment air is exhausted from the vehicle through open windows or body air vents.

2001 tahoe front heater not working, rear heater blows warm air


Notorious for plugged heater cores. Also updated plastic restriction couplers mounted at heater core available from dealer. Try back flushing heater core. Run engine till its at operating temperature then carefully hold the inlet and outlet hose breifly with heater fan on high if hoses are nearly the same temp then flow is good , if not then core is plugged.
