Flip open key. With small tweezers, file, or jewellers screwdriver, depress release button found in key-slot (near the end of the fob with the key on it. Pull two halves of fob apart. Separate the remaining fob in half again (the part without the key) by prying in the slot on the open end. Replace battery. Reassemble.
The two halves come apart, then you need to pull the cover off the back half. It has the numbers on it. Use a fingernail or small flat screw driver. Pry it with care not to break it. The battery is on the inside of the lid. 3volt flat jobby. Get a new one at Radio Shack. Try it there, Radio Shack batteries are old some times. Good Luck
it could be a weak battery or the remote itself. To change the battery you need to pry the remote apart with a screw driver where the two halves come together. Look carefully at the sloder joints inside the remote they sometimes come apart causing a poor/no connection between the battery contacts and the little circuit board inside the remote.
the switchblade key comes apart buy lightly prying the 2 halves apart with a pocket screwdriver then the half that has the buttons will pop apart like a watch the battery is a watch/hearing aid battery, think the number is c2023
THESE ARE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE OWNERS MANUAL:
To replace the battery:
1. Twist a thin coin between the two
halves of the remote entry
transmitter near the key ring. DO
NOT TAKE THE FRONT PART OF
THE REMOTE ENTRY
2. Remove the old battery.

the diagram inside the remote entry
transmitter for the correct orientation of the battery.
4. Snap the two halves back together.
Note: Replacement of the battery will not cause the remote transmitter
to become deprogrammed from your vehicle. The remote transmitter
should operate normally after battery replacement.
