It sounds like you have a heater core leak. If it smells sweet and the floor is wet on the passenger side, it is a leaky heater core. Costly repair.

Climate control system blows only through the defroster vents and not through the passenger compartment vents; the windshield fogs in high humidity and windshield wipers are necessary to clear the fog. ...

If the fogging is plain moisture and not coolant (it would take on a green hue and you would smell coolant if this is the case) than the issue is with the blend door actuator. This component diverts air from the window, to the vents and floor. You may have a "stuck" door or a defective blend door. If it is coolant you are seeing (smelling), you may have a bad heater core. When bad, a heater core will dispel green vapor through the defroster vent.

Assuming the problem is merely the blend door, you may be able to free the part (if it's stuck) by locating it (usually under the glove box or between the glove box and middle console.

Window fogs up after driving for awile. Just

The mildew smell you refer to could be anti-freeze. When a heater core starts leaking it may allow anti-freeze (which circulates through it for heat) to be blown through the ducts onto the windshield in defrost mode. The repair is to have the heater core replaced. It may wait for the thermostat to open and allow the coolant to circulate before you notice it. Occasionally the carpet on the passenger side may be wet from leakage.

Fogging up issues

If you can feel the air from the blower motor blowing up on the windshield it is probably one of two things. Either your heater core has a leak and the anti-freeze mist film is all over the windows or your heater control valve is not working.
Does the heater get hot or can you feel hot air on the windshield? If so your heater core is probably leaking and making steam inside your car.

Windows fog up,small anti-freeze smell

The early sign of a heater core leak is the smell of coolant, the reason is that only vapor is leaking now, it will gradually get worse in most cases and coolant will start comming out the heater box condensation drain.

Heater works but defrost fills inside with fog.

your heater core has probably sprung a leak.does the fog smell kinda sweet?....check the floor in the front where the floor mats are for moisture or even puddles of antifreeze.(the replacement of a heater core can be very expensive as the entire dash usually needs to be removed to access the heater core)also look under the engine near the firewall for antifreeze drips.

When i run the heat or air cond. i smell water and windshield fogs up in the middle.

Sounds like your heater core is bad. Have someone check out the heating system and possibly replace heater core.. that should take care of the fog problem also by enabling you to use the defrost... Good Luck!
