Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Wipers Occassionally our windshield wipers swipe just once and they are not on. Do we need to worry about a coming problem? We are going away in a few days and we don't want to be without wipers if necessary.

Yep,  Had the same problem for 4+ years with no known associated effects.  Totally random occurrence every other month or so.

Yes I have the same problem with our 1999 Taurus... the wipers go on when ever they feel like going on. Most of the time its when its very warm out that it does it the most and when there are lots of people around! How embarrassing (cause its NOT RAINNING). I wish I knew what was wrong with them!

I had this problem on my 1999 Ford Taurus Wagon and it often happened at an intersection with traffic lights. I thought it might be linked to the traffic light actuators (radio signal), but in fact, it turned out to be a faulty switch on the actuator stalk in the car. Not too expensive to fix.

Wipers won't go home

Did the wipers stop in the up position? If so it may be a blown fuse or a defective wiper motor. Have you looked at the fuse-box? Did you mean that the wipers swipe the windshield correctly and then when the wipers shut off they stop in the wrong position. If this applies then inspect the wiper transmission. There could be worn/loose linkage between the wiper motor and the wiper arms. Also if the wiper motor was just installed. The clock position may be wrong. Please let me know if this information helps. If not please write back, leave more details, and I'll do my best, good luck.

Wiper come on periodically. They will go off in a few minutes. 2004 CTS

Humm, do not be mislead by the rain sensitive wipers. The system has the ability to operate the wipers from delay >>through full speed >>and off. Lever position is one clue to look for, but when the system has been left on, and you start the car, the wipers take one swipe....to indicate it's activation.

The key in your case, is was there any water on the windshield. or other debris around the sensor on the windshield....

2000 Saturn LS, windshield wipers park in the middle of the windshield. How can I fix this?

The wipers are parking in the middle because the timing mechanism is off. Once they start doing this it seems to continue to happen so the 1st suggestion is to replace the wiper motor. If U don't want to spend the $ right now it's a pretty easy fix to reset the timing. Park the wipers & remove the wiper arms. Then remove the plastic cowling that covers the wiper motor & the motor assembly. Turn the wiper assembly over without turning the motor. Remove the nut on the arm of the motor. Repostion the arm pointing away from the closet wiper directly inline with the short arm. reassemble.

Sounds like the wiper blade motor is going bad. You can also try to use some alpurpose oil on it
