This may be caused by a bad wheel bearing, have the wheel bearings checked, this is the most common thing i know of, good luck.

Driving along makes a very loud noise like motor is racing, but continue driving, noise goes away then starts again???

Please take a look at your Engine's RPMs when this is happening and let us know, as it will help with the diagnosis. If the Engine RPM is stable (not high during the periods of the racing engine sound), then it sounds like your Radiator Fan clutch may be going out. The noise you are hearing is the fan kicking in and blowing a lot of air, which in turn sounds like the engine is racing.

If the RPMs are increasing with the racing engine sound, it could be the transmission/(clutch if manual trans) slipping.
Hope this helps!

Is the serpentine belt changed when the timing belt is changed?

replace belt. the reason that the sound goes away, when the belt warms up and it does not tend to slip as it does when its cold.ultimately the belt has stretched, and is worn out.

The vehicles makes a loud squelling sound when turning the wheel to the left. Doesn't make the sound when turning the wheel to the right only left. Also it seems like the transmission slips in the morning...

The converter seal in the trans is worn, as well as all the others
When you first start the vehicle and put it into gear,if you don't
wait a few minutes, there is little oil in the converter,it drains down
over night, thus 7-8 hours you mentioned.

Any slipping of a trans, is a reason to stop driving it, altogether

I once owned a trans repair shop ,and would suggest your trans
is about due for a rebuild.

Ten or eleven years may seen a short time to you,but not in the
transmission world. If you do not change your fluid every 3 years,
and not more than 30,000 mile,it is a death sentence.

I suspect, you have the same problem with the steering rack
No fluid changes, they last about 6 years, at best.
The squealing is the P/S Pump working against a bound steering
rack and possibly tight suspension parts as well
A new drive belt will help the noise some, but not a repair for the problem

Chevy cobalt noise knocking in front end when you turn the steering wheel from left to right. Also knocking noise over bumps.

Hello and welcome. this noise is normally caused by a noisey steering I-shaft. there is a steering shaft that goes in between the steering column and the steering gear. this shaft has a slip joint that becomes noisey. all you need to do is lube the i-shaft with some special lube and you will be good to go

2006 kia sorento makes a squealing sound under

It is either the tesnioner or the belt....easy way to find out is to spray the pulley that has no grooves....that's the tensioner. Spray it with WD-40 or equivalent, in the middle of the pulley. That is the bearing housing. Spray only that first. Start the motor...if it goes away, then you have found your problem. Try not to spray the belt.

If it still squeals, spray the belt with the engine running. If it squeals, replace the belt.

Has anything been done to the motor recenlty? If so, one of the pulleys may be a little off-centered.

Let me know what you find.

98 lincoln navigator loud noise, shaking, high rpm at idle, drive

I don't know how much oil you had to put in but it sounds like you have maybe more than opne issue and both sound major. One is engine reving and speed not picking up sounds like trans problem. Two the engine shaking and making noise and being run low on oil leans toward possible engine damage. If your mechanicly inclined check all fluids and when checking trans fluid smell it. If it smells burnt the trans has been damaged. Check oil pressure and make sure coolant is full. You may have to take it into the shop.

My 2006 Cobalt has a loud grinding sound coming from the drivers side front tire the noise only happens as I push the gas pedal, soon as I let off the noise has stopped. Thought at first to be the cv joint...

sounds like a wheel bearing noise. if you turn left hard does the noise go away or get better? if you do the opposite is it worse?
when jacked up does the wheel have up and down play.

There is a loud noise at 45mph.

Find a quiet empty stretch of road. Go 50 mph, put the trans in NEUTRAL and shut the engine. If noise is still there, swing car left and right to detect noise differences. Could be hub or axle bearings. Not engine or trans if noise is still there. Hope this helps
