This is the 2nd time the outer handle has broken off in my hand. (first driverside door handle, fixed myself, this time, it was the sliding passenger door.) Will there be any unknown problems I will face in doing so? If so, I would like to know what to look for.

Both sliding doors exterior door handles are broke and needs fixing. I'll try taking off the inside panels and see what happens. Has anyone ever done this? How difficult is it? Thanks if you know the answer and respond.

There are 4 screws that need to be removed to get the door panel off. Once you remove them, there is a bezel at the rear of the door, under the bezel is 1 more screw. Take that screw out, then gently pull the door panel from the top edge toward you. Once the door panel is removed, everything is exposed. If you are replacing the outside handle, you have to remove the locking mechanism. There are 4 bolts and 2 pieces of linkage to remove, don't disconnect the cable!!, that will keep it from falling. Once all this is done you can remove the bolts that hold the exterior handle in place. Hope this helps everyone, the job only took me an hour as a first timer......

Hello, The passenger's side sliding door on a 2004 Kia Sedona minivan, does not close correctly, unless you push really ******* the door to help it close. I believe the latch needs to be cleaned and...

Kia doesn't publish instructions for servicing JUST the latch assembly for the sliding door. They only have instructions for disassembling the ENTIRE door.

Basicly, this is what you need to do.
Remove the screws and the door finish panel. Part of it simply "clips" into place. Make sure all of the screws are removed before pulling on the panel to get the clips to let go. You will have to be inside the vehicle with the door closed to access some of the screws. The others can be accessed with the door partially open. The door will have to be open to get to the screws at the bottom of the door.
Remove 3 bolts securing the inner door handle.
Carefully peel the door screen (plastic film) from the door.
There should be 3 bolts securing the latch assembly to the door.
Release the clips securing the outer door handle linkage to the latch assembly.
Remove the latch assembly.
Reverse procedure to install.

NOTE: There is also a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) published by Kia that addresses sliding doors that are hard to open or close. It covers all the ADJUSTMENTS on the door that can cause these types of problems. The bulletin itself has lots of pictures and instructions about how to check for the actual CAUSE of the symptom and how to make adjustments to correct it. It is too large to post a copy here. You may try going by your Kia dealer to see if they will print a copy for you. If not, you can access the information by subscribing to AllData DIY for a small fee. (around $27/year)

It is Bulletin Number TT820405-001

Rightside interior door handle not opening door

It could mean the rod connecting the handle to the latch has broken. You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. and you can access the innards of the door

How do you manually release the rear hatch in a 2003 kia sedona? The outside latch handle does not work anymore.

This happened to me, I removed the interior light fixture on the rear hatch and reached in to pull the connecting rod, this works for an one off opening, you will need to take the panel off once the hatch is open and repair your outer handle, our connection was broken at the handle which I repaired and it works great. Hope this helps.

Kia Door Handle

Remove the door trim inside by loosen 3 bolt with screw driver, then pull out the door trim, after that loosen the hex.bolt (3 hex-bolt) on lock mechanism bracket, after that you can loose bolt (4 hex bolt) on handle cover. Be careful to not drop the bolt, because the gap on sliding door is too narrow. After you removing the handle assembly you can see where is the broken. You can remove the handle from cover by removing pin clips on it. To fixing the broken handle you can just using plastic glue or you can drill a small hole and put some small wire to reinforce the plastic.
