Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Spark plug removal

I'm trying to figure out how i remove the spark plugs from my 2002 jeep cherokee and replace them with new ones. It looks like you need to remove a bunch of things to get at them, but there must be an easier way.

Use my advice at your own risk. I will not be held responsible for what you do to your vehicle. For Jeep Cherokees with a 4.0 engine; (if you are standing in front of the vehicle looking back at the engine compartment) the spark plugs are on the left side / the same side as your battery. What look like spark plugs on the right side of the engine are actually your fuel injectors. On the exact opposite side of the engine block, all 6 spark plugs are held in place with a long rectangular box (called a coil pack) that has 3 small raised boxes on it. The coil pack is the length of the engine block and about 1 1/2 wide. There are 4 large approx 1/2 bolts that hold this coil pack in place. There is a plug on the back end / closest to the fire wall where you can upplug this coil pack but I couldn't unplug it. Simply, remove the 4 bolts holding the coil pack in place, lift the coil pack away from the engine block and the spark plugs are exposed. The boots that attach to the spark plugs are "fixed" in to the coil pack. Replace your spark plugs some type of using anti-sieze compound, adjust your gap, and torque to 19 lbs. NOTE: use dielectric grease on plug boots and coil pack ends of wires. can also be used on plug in bulbs. The above answer is great but if they are platnum plugs dont bother setting gap because you usually don't get a spec anyways and you do more harm than good. The gap is preset

You could have a bad spark plug wire, not allowing all your cylinders to fire. make sure the spark plugs are gapped correctlly, they don't always come pre-gapped,check your timing, and your firing order, if just one sparkplug wire is out of place it can make your car sound like its falling apart. good luck!

2002 Jeep grand Cherokee will turn over but will not start. Have replaced battery already

There are mainly 2 reasons why a carwould not start, namely fuel and spark, remove one of the spark plugs and connect it to the sparkplug lead, hold it close to the motor and let somebody crank the starter, use an insulated pliers to hold the plug if you can hear or see a spark then you have a fuel problem, check the filtersand the fuel pump and replace if required. If you do not see a spark check the coil and replace

Ok I have 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I have replaced the spark plugs and the coil rail but still getting the code P0351 and I was wondering if this could be caused by some kind of sensor?

The code indicates the coil pack or spark plug is malfunctioning. You can test this using an additional person. by removing the coil pack and spark plug, place the spark plug into the coil pack and ground the tang on the spark plug to the engine. Have someone start the engine and watch for a blue spark. if there is no spark, then the coil pack is malfunctioning. There is also ways to check the coil packs using a multimeter.

also, bee sure you didnt crack the ceramic part of the plug during initial installation.

How do you replace spark plugs on 99 jeep grand cherokee

If it is a 4.0L, remove the 4 13mm bolts and lift up on the coil pack and flip it over. Remove your spark plugs and install the new ones. Put dielectric silicone in the boots and reinstall the coil pack. If it is a 4.7L, you have to remove the air box on the top of the engine. Each cylinder has it's own coil pack which is retained by a 10mm nut. remove this and the coil pack comes out. the 2 rear on the passenger side are harder to remove because of the transmission dipstick bracket. You will need a long extension to get the spark plugs out. Repeat the same procedure from the 4.0L installation. Hope this helps

Best of luck

How do I get access to the spark plugs in my 2002 Toyota Tacoma? There is a air flow tube over two of the spark plugs and I can't figure out how to remove it.

Replacing 2002 Tacoma PlugsIf you're talking about a 6 cylinder, then it's fairly straightforward. The driver side has normal-looking plug wires, the passenger side has the ignition coils covering the plugs. In either case, remove and label the wires from the plug side, unscrew and remove the ignition coils from the other side. Using a spark plug socket (this is important, the rubber ring in the socket will hold on to the plug, which is deep inside the head) unscrew the plug, make sure the new plugs are gapped and replace them. It is wise to use some rubber hose to start the new plugs so you don't cross thread. Then replace the plugs and ignition coils.
It's probably worth replacing the plug wires at the same time.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 1996 jeep grand cherokee

You have the item in front of you .
Find the spark plug wires do the replacement one at a time. Yep clean if you can. You need the correct tools a a 5/8 socket a 12 inch or better extention a btraker bar or/and a ratchet,
Pull the plug wire and try to work around or remove any obstruction for the time being also for sparkplugs that are located in a well use a magnetic grabing tool these rest is a counter clockwise removal and a clockwise install. Be sure not to over torque the installation
use a 6 inch ratchet and went the plug is snug cup your one hand over the crnter of the ratchet and tighten it as tight as you would a pickle jar cap. You shall feel the seating of the sparkplug washer.
If you are a real strong fellow use t fingers technically this is where specifications can come in handy from the library in foot pounds
