The problem is you shift lever solenoid, this is an electrical plug that makes sure that you have your foot on the brake before it will let you put the car in gear, if you can gain acess in the console where the gear shifter is there will be an electrical connecter, usually on the left side, you can replace the part or do as i did on my 95Z28 and just leave it unplugged, but remember that if you chose to leave it unplugged the car will now be able to be put in gear without your foot having to be on the brake

Gearshift assembly is locked

What is the year/make/model and engine size of your vehicle? Do you have an automatic or manual transmission? If automatic, is the gearshift locked in Park? If so, there is likely a problem with the brake switch (located at the top of the brake pedal near the firewall), or with the shift solenoid. As a safety feature, this solenoid has been installed for many years, and it is tied to the brake switch, meaning that the brake pedal must be depressed before the car can be shifted out of park. If the brake switch goes bad, you will not be able to move the shift lever.

Not shift park

Your gearshift lever (floor or column) has a safety feature that will not allow you to shift out of Park unless the brake pedal is depressed. There is a solenoid on the shifter that is tied to a switch on the brake pedal, which activates a relay that activates the solenoid. Problem could be the brake pedal switch , brake relay, or brake relay fuse (do your brake lights work when you step on the pedal?), or it could be the shifter solenoid or the wiring in between.

Gear shifter is stuck in park 2008 impala

Can be several things. There is an interlock for the gearshift which must agree with the brake pedal showing your foot is on the brake. If anything is out of alignment, then the gearshift will not release.

Sometimes if you look at the Brakelight, a sure sign of problems is they refuse to light up when the pedal is pressed. The brake pedal interlock at the top of the brake pedal lever is out of place or broken. Once the switch is restored, everything should work again.

Sometimes if the steering wheel is not lined up, a release pin in the column will not let the interlock move. Tilt columns can often have this problem.

Lincoln ls 2001 gets stuck in park most of the time i would just pump brake and would finally go into reverse or drive now it is completely stuck any one no what the cause for this is

Hello, If you look under the dash at the Drivers' pedal, there is a switch on the top of the Brake pedal lever. This switch sends the signal to the Shift Interlock to allow shifting out of Park. You may notice that you do not have Stop lights when you push the brakes. This is a common problem caused by feet hitting the upper regions of the brake pedal lever.

The Brake switch may be dislodged or broken in its holder. Reposition or replace the switch. This switch is linked to the Interlock for the gearshift. It is also possible that the linkage with the gearshift has stretched out of position. Ask the Dealer about recalls for the shift console, but it is an older car and parts wear out.

If the underdash brake switch does not help fix the problem, someone will need to adjust the gearshift Interlock.

I hope my solution is very helpful.

Gearshift is stuck in park?

Replace the shift lock solenoid for the shifter and replace the brake lamp switch as well located near the brake pedal. It will have a plunger on it that the brake pedal arm hits on to when depressed
