1996 chrysler town and country

Idles erratically 400 to 500 rpm vice 500-700. Will cut out without warning. Does most often on hot days.

Had car at deatler for 2 weeks with no find result.

The dealer claims to have checkout all the sensors. I don't think they are ripping me off because they are not charging me for the no-find.

A private garage I had look at the car before I took it to the dealer replace the crankshaft position sensor. They said the signal was noisy. Replacing the sensor seeemed to improve the signal.

Is there any possibility that this is and ignition problem?

Does this model use a ballast resistor of equivalent which could be starting to fail?

The temperature sensitivity I find quite curious.

Actually, the idle seems to be too low. The normal range on these vehicles is 500-700 rpm.

I see it dip to 400 rpm and then become erratic before the engine can stall all together.

Abnormally high idle implies a cracked/open vacuum hose to the MAP sensor or the throttle body sensor may be bad. Please have both checked and let me know what is found and then we can go from there

good luck

Have they tried cleaning the throttle positioning sensor? that is one of the first things. Also maybe the temp sensor. Unfortunately if the dealer couldn't find the problem it is near impossible for us. Either they are not good mechanics or are ripping you off. They should have been able to locate your problem. Do you know what they tried/looked for?
Thanks,
Lee

I would get some intake cleaner clean that out, and clean the TPS. Is the check engine light coming on at all? Did they relearn the computer? After doing the first steps you will want to do that. Which engine do you have? Let me know how it goes.
    Good luck,
    Lee

check the spark, sounds like the coils are going bad but it may be a fuel delivery problem.

99 Chrysler Town and Country idles high

Maybe a sticking choke or binding throttle linkage. Have you lifted the aircleaner cover and looked down carb opening? Choke stuck?
Could be a simple idle speed adjustment also. What rpm's do consider to be high. Maybe some carb cleaner down the barrels and throttle linkage could free it up. Again, it could be a simple idle adjustment depending on RPM's it's turning.

Speedometer and rpm gauge won't work

Have you checked the fuses? Without knowing all the details I would guess fuse or ground out somewhere along the line. Also chk to see if the needle is stuck under the pin. Although unlikely it does happen. I hope that helps you to solve your problem.
