Question about 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser
My car just died at a stop light yesterday .. it will turn over but not fire.. it put off 2 codes p0551 & p1684 .. battery disconnect and power steering switch.. the auto zone guy said he doubted it was the switch.. the transmission place i broke down in front of said he thought it had to do with the security system.. It isnt the battery we replaced it today.. it will turn over but not fire.. today when i tried starting it the gauges went crazy... any ideas ?
I had a similar problem with my 2001 Dodge Neon. Car ran perfect one day, the next morning it wouldn't turn over, nor make any sound whatsoever.
Turned out the ECM died and had it replaced with a re-manufactured unit purchased online...best pricing. Between shipping & handling, tax and base price of $295 (purchased in Florida & live in Florida)
Now the car has trouble starting...have to start turnover about 3X's before it finally starts....once it starts, it runs better than ever before.....though back to the mechanic in the next few days. Electrical problems are the worst to deal with for anyone. Even the "Pros" have difficulty.
Hope this helps anyone.

I would go to autozone or something and have them read the computer in your vehicle. This will tell you what those codes mean.Than go from there.
If I had to guess, there is a short or the computer is bad.
