Question about 1988 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Engine not starting

I had checked fuses to try and get the wiper motor to work and the dome lite...found burned out fuse for dome lite and replaced..then proceeded to check all fuses for cleanliness at the stake-on tips...got the wiper motor to work....but now the engine will not start,,,,,starter turns over fine...but cant get engine to fire....was working fine untill I started pulling fuses..car has been on blocks for awhile...but with gas prices has forced it into service again..
Gas level ok...battery ok...
There is or appears to be many parallel circuits that its too confusing for me to follow the diagrams I have..and am stumped as to why she wont run...after the car stared so nicely after 4 years of non-op

What to check if windshield wiper stop working

Bummer deal! Some wipers have 4 places to check to see if its an electrical problem. Check the fuse box. It contains postage stamp size fuses. Check your glove box manual for the wipers specific fuse location. Pull it out to look for a break or burn on the part that melts, and it looks like a S in the window on the fuse. A electrical device tool that connects to ground by clip to any metal - and the other ice pick end touches a spot on fuse, is the common way made to check current flow to check fuses. A light on the tool electrical checker will lite if both sides of the fuse lites the light. If good that shows so.

The other is a solenoid, usually under the hood in a electrical box - so stated. You can switch the wiper solenoid with another to see if its bad. if bad the switch of solenoids will allow the wipers to work.

The actual switch at the steering column many go bad as well as the motor. A mechic needs to do these and other checks if you can't. Hope these tips works. . http://www.auto-tune-up-and-repair-options.com/

definately a short somewhere tracing will be tricky but here goes,is there a roof mount aerial above the dome light ? if so take dome light down and check for signs of water ingress ie corrosion on the bare metal parts etc,if no roof aerial move to the fuse box in engine compartment ,take the lid off which will have a list of the fuses/relays look for one's that go with the components acting up check them for corrosion ,will have to remove the fuse/relay to do this ,only take one out at a time so dont get any mixed up,then check the fuses inside car under dash drivers side particulary the window and wiper if nothing found get the OBD codes read and forward me the numbers , this might take you 10 minutes to sort or hours

KEEP BLOWING THE FUSE AS SOON AS IT IS ENTERED IN THE FUSE BOX.

If you can pull the plug from the wiper motor and try fuse. If no change disconnect the plug to the electric windows and try fuse. Unlikly to be in dome light circut unless you have had aftermarket sterio system or other accessory fitted recently

Windshield wipers completely stopped working

Well first I would check the fuse box for burned out fuses. Then I would get a simple dc power tester and see if the windshield wiper motor is getting power. If you don't have a bad fuse and the motor is still getting power I would say the motor has burned out.

I have a 1996 honda accord and my wipers will not work how do i know if its the wiper motor or not?

To check the fuse is always a good start. But also ,with the engine not running and the Key in the on position, turn the wipers on and listen for the wiper moter. You may hear the wiper motor running but the wipers not working ,they could have come disconnected at the motor or in the linkage. Physically move the wipers, if they move freely with no resistants, that would indicate a disconnection in the linkage or at the motor, in my opinion.

How do I fix a short in the windshield wiper line? I think that's the problem. Wipers won't work. Change fuse. Turn wipers on and fuse immediately burns out again. Went through four fuses, even trying...

First of all disconnect the motor before you change the fuse and then try it out. If the fuse blows out hten you have a fault in the line that goes through the harness. If you are not able to isolate the line cut off and use a new line to the motor. However if the fuse stays fine the it is confirmed that your motor is short. You will need to remove the wiper motor unit and check inside for a short in the motor winding or the cummutators. USe a ggood multimeter to see for short and if it has burned then you will need to replace or rewind as acordingly to the cost feasibility. If the motor was stuck due to a damaged spiral gear or the drive wheel replace and proceed. Hope you try this out one by one. Good day

Blowing dome light and rear wiper fuse.

Sounds like a dead short to me. You will need to find a wiring diagram for this one. Without it, I'd start by unpluging the motor and the light one at a time. Another good place to check is at the rear hatch, where the wiring harness enters the hatch, this is a common area for broken/shorted wires.Check that and let me know, I'll help how I can.
Good luck

1999 F150 WIndshield wipers, dome light and side window controls not working

i just had the same problem with my f 150 ( 1999), my wipers, washer fluid pump, dome light, door chime stopped, I went thur the manuals, Checked appropated fuses, even changed wiper motor, (nothing worked) out of much internet checking, talking to mechanics, I got frustrated, I started pulling all the fuses under the dash,, I pulled # 15 ,a 5 amp fuse, which has nothing to do with the wipers eletronics, it was a good fuse, when i put it back in, everything came back and working fine. nearest i can figure it was either loose or a dirty contact.

#15 fuse (5 amps) on my box is for : stop lamp switch,( speed control, brake shift interlock,ABS, pcm module inputs.gem module,RABS test connector)
this was just blind luck, maybe it will help you.
