I have a dodge 1.8L. the oil ligh flashes when it running and my foot is on the accelerator, but comes off when it idles on its own.

It is not a big worry if the oil light comes on at low idle, but it should go off as soon as the revs rise a bit. I'd recommend

- change the oil AND FILTER with the correct grade, to the correct level.
- ask a mechanic to temprarily replace the oil pressure sender with an oil pressure gauge, and with the engine HOT, rev the engine up and down to see what pressure there is. You should have roughly 10 psi per 1000 RPM.

If the pressure is very low, ask the mechanic to check the oil pump and engine bearings. If you are not burning oil with lots of blue smoke from the exhaust, it is unlikely the bearings are worn.

The oil pressure is low at idle and rises with higher engine revs. Oil levels are ok, new oil approx 2000kms ago. Was a slight noise at one stage in the engine but went away after engine's revs in

It sounds as if the clearance that the bearings normally run in have been surpassed and need to be replaced. Higher engine revs will supply extra oil which will overcome any small discrepencies but constant running at this stage will result in faster degradation of all engine components concerned resulting in a more expensive repair. Shes basically worn out.

My 91 Subaru Legacy keeps overheating. When the needle starts to rise, it blows cold air instead of heat. Had a faulty hose replaced recently and it fixed the problem for a few days, but she's acting up...

if there are no leaks then they have problems with head gaskets blowing compression into coolant when cold remove rad cap fill with coolant run engine then rev up engine look for bubbles in coolant if so then replace head gaskets

Where is the coolent sensor on a 1993 Buick Regal? My coolant light on my car comes on while driving. The car isn" low in coolent and doesn"t over heat.

Depending on the engine that you have most of the coolant level sensors are mounted in the radatior about a foot down below the fill cap. They often had problems with these sensors getting debris on the end's of them causing a false reading. What your looking for is a black box about an inch and a half square and about 3/4 inch thick .you can try to remove it and clean but the best way is just to replace

Hi, I have a '95 2L Legacy Boxer 2 stage twin Turbo. When i'm driving and the engines reving at ot just above 2000 rpm I'm getting a dip in power for a moment before it picks up again. I haven't noticed...

the 1st thing that needs to be done here is to find what fault code is turning on the check engine light, this information is absolutely crucial to making an accurate diagnosis of this problem, guessing is not an option as each part that could cause this is very hard to replace and very expensive, so get the the engine control system tested, this is what is called OBD 1 electronic engine control and requires a Subaru scanner to read code.

Check engine light is on intermitently on my 1998 legacy estate

The only way to fix the check engine light is to have the codes read by hand-held obd1 scanner. THis will tell you exactly what the problem is. It may just be a vacuum leak. Never really know without having codes read. Many part stores do this for free.
