That caused because one or more of the electrec fuses are burned its not expensive you can change them by ur self open the hood on the right corner theres a box with big screw remove them and u will see a group of fuses change the one that damaged it differ from other and if u didnt know wich one theres a map for each fuse inside the box

Dissconnect the battery for 30 minutes to do what is called a hard reset if that doesn't work you need to take it to the dealer or a shop that has a diagnosis computer . It sounds like the Head light control moduel needs reprogramming .

My M.B. 240D will not start unless I add starting fluid/

Sounds to me like you either have bad/weak glow plugs or low compression in your cylinders. Continuing to put starting fluid in your diesel will ultimately cause much more serious problems. Starting fluid is never recommended for use on a diesel.

Blower fan on 1983 240D.

This fan is pretty easy to replace. The reason it operates intermitantly is because the brushes are nearly worn out. It's doubtful that you can find replacement brushes, try googleing it, so if you can, it is a cheaper fix. Remove the underdash cover from the passenger foot well, should be 5-6 screws. You'll have access to the blower box, remove that. another 6-8 screws. once off , the fan is directly exposed. The fan itself has I believe 3 screws that hold it inplace with a plug-style connector that can be taken apart.
