Is this truck an automatic or is it a standard im thinking its probably an automatic so if you use the shifter to manually start off in 1 then drive bring up the revs and then shift it into 2nd bring up revs then shift into drive and see what happens does it go into gear or does it stay in first still ? is it 4 wheel drive ? what size motor is in it ? there is a shift relay under the hood in the relay box you could replace it and it may shift for you if this doesnt help replace the speed sensor located on the tailstock of the transmission does the speedometer work while in first gear ? does the truck have plenty of transmission oil ? does the engine run smooth ? these questions will help me diagnose the problem easier with out actually physically being there, good luck and get back to me asap i'll do some reaserch ok bye for now

I have a 88 Ford Bronco2.9Liter 4wheel drive Mitsubishitransmission. I need a diagram of tranny for the gears.

It's very simple starting at the front of the tranny going to the rear if it's a 4 speed
all of the gears except the input shaft (4th gear ) will be assembled on the main shaft ,,,
from small to large on the main shaft
the input shaft is the 4th gear , next is 3rd gear , next is 2nd gear, and then 1st gear is the largest

now the counter shaft in the bottom of the case ,,, it 's gear labeling will be backwards from large to small
like this

the front of the countershaft is large and mates with the small gear(4th)
the next gear is 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the gear thats mounted off the side in the case is the reverse idler

If its a 5 speed

the gears places above are the same and 5th gear is added to the rear of the main shaft (,the smallest gear,)

the gears on the countershaft are the same and 5th gear is the last gear on the countershaft( the largest gear on the counter shaft ) the single gear mounted off the side in the case is the reverse idler

hope this helps

Sounds like there could be gear damage in 5th gear. Isn't 5th gear a straight through arrangement? G. Nye

All the gears inside the transmission are driven off a main gear called a cluster gear. Though the gear ratio changes as you select different gears, each "gear" you select engages several gears inside the unit to achieve the one you selected. Actually if it was possible to have a straight through arrangement, that would happen in fourth gear. Fifth is overdrive... the input actually turns slower than the output so the engine turns slower and saves fuel.

GEAR SHIFTING CAMRY 2004 2.4 XLI

Hi,

This might be because of the gear box problem. By any chance, did your car face flooding? In such cases, please drain the gear box and replace it with new gear fluids. Also, check if you go in low speeds, you might be able to engage it with ease. Please come back to me if you feel this doesnt solve your issue.

Hari

Cars engine rpm revs up periodically or shifts erratically

Sounds like you could have a vaccuum leak. you could spray carb cleaner around your lines and see if the engine's rpm increases or starts running like ****. That would be an easy test to indicate leak or not.
