Did you change the pads, pistons or calipers or the whole set? if you changed just the pistons, did you hone the cylinders? I don't know if yours have them but there were some vehicles(ford) that had non-metalic pistons that kept seizing/not releasing after the breaks were released.

2002 Chevy Avalanche - key won't turn. It appears locked. Turned the steering wheel far to the left and fright and nothing.

You avalanche may be in security mode. If this is the case, you will have to call the dealership and get the code. If that is not the case, you have a bad ignition. You will have to change your ignition box and lock cylinder. Make sure your shifter is all the way up, just in case the cable broke.

How do i change front brake pad on this car merecy sable 1989 -99

Remove the wheel, remove the 2 bolts holding on the caliper to the caliper carrier. You will need a large C-Clamp or a cailper piston tool. Place an old brake pad against the piston in the caliper and use the C-Clamp to push the brake pad against the piston to collapses the piston into the caliper. Also open the master cylinder cap and place a towel around the area to catch any brake fluid that would come out of the master cylinder as you collapes the piston, this is normal, but doesn't always happen, depending on the level of fluid in the master cylinder. Install the new pads and reinstall the caliper and wheel. Make sure you pump the brake pedal a few times before you take off, to get the pads against the rotor.

Can I change the front breaks on my 1997 VW Jetta? I've done it on my old Chevy, and I'd like to save a bit and do it myself on the Jetta. Is this possible?

Sure, shouldn't be a problem for you, not much different from the old Chevys, but metric bolts, LOL. There will be two 13mm head bolts screwed into the sliders, you can use a 16mm wrench to hold the slider, remove the 2 bolts and the cailper will come off. Collapes the piston, and reinstall everything. Make sure you pump the brake pedal a few times before you take off.

How to replace rear brake pads - issue with getting pistons back

does it hav a drum or rotor? if drum then get a hanes manual if rotor grab a big pair of pliers and squeeze. also put the old pads back on and put the caliper back on and take a screwdriver near the top of the cailper put it in between the rotor and cailper and pull towards you firmly and steady.
