How do i Reconnect the speedo cable on my 1978 GMC Truck with 350 motor, 4x4?

Depending on which end needs to be reattached, At the Speedometer Head or at the Transfer Case, or at the Cruise Control Module (if equipped with Cruise Control).

At the Transfer Case : Underneath the truck, on the left side of the transfer case, near the tail housing/rear of the transfer case (if it's a NP203 or NP205), there should be a small rectangular box threaded onto the transfer case, the other end (facing away from the transfer case) has a threaded end on it where you'll thread the end of the speedometer cable on.

At the Speedometer : Behind the instrument cluster, protruding from the back of the speedometer, is a round male port that the speedometer cable snaps onto. You just push it onto the back of the speedometer and it locks into place. Some cables have a metal end for the Speedometer end, some have a plastic end. The ones with the plastic end will sometimes break and won't stay locked in place at the speedometer.

If it's equipped with Cruise Control, you'll have 2 Speedometer Cables, an Upper Cable (From the Cruise Control Module to the Speedometer) and a Lower Cable (from the Transfer Case to the Cruise Control Module.) Both ends of the Lower Cable have Female Threaded ends (one to thread onto the box on the side of the transfer case, one to thread onto the Cruise Control). The Upper Cable has one threaded end and one Clip On/Press On end. Reconnecting the cable is the same as the methods I mentioned above, but with 2 additional threaded connections on to the Cruise Control Module (which is usually found on the Fenderwell in the engine compartment)

My car Moves very well, it selects the options on the gear very well i.e P,R,N,D,2,L, but cannot change i.e Cruise control select while moving especially on D,2,L, options on the gear. Normally the car is...

If cruise control is selected, it engages automatically at a certain road speed. Your description indicates that you are confused about the overdrive function.

The malfunctioning speedometer requires troubleshooting to isolate the cause.

Transmission speed sensor

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

1994 Volvo 940T Speedometer Works Intermittently

If the speedometer and odometer are not working the problem is usually lack of signal from the transmission speed sensor.
But if the cruise control works and the speedometer does not, my guess would be a problem inside the cluster.

2002 merc villager speedometer doesn't work, tach OK

The speedometer is electronic and controlled by a micro processor, the needle is operated by a special DC electric motor called a "stepper" motor, this little motor can cause this problem as well as the Vehicle speed sensor on the transmission (see photo below), either part can cause the problem, the cruise not working would lead me to believe the speed sensor is defective, but you should have a Check Engine light on and a fault code for the sensor, do you have either? Autozone and others do the fault code test for free, ask for an OBD2 fault test. Here is the picture of the sensor I mentioned.

Speedometer and cruise control not working

Look in your owner's manual for the fuse layout and see where the cruise system fuse is and check it for a blown fuse. If it is replace with the rating listed in the guide. If not then you may have to have an automotive electric shop troubleshoot the cause such as a bad ground, blown inline fusible link or other. If it is a fuse and you replace it and all is working then it blows again you should have a shop troubleshoot the cause. Blown fuses generally are due to a short in the circuit. On some vehicles the "clockspring" in the steering column can cause lack of operation in the horn and cruise control but since you mentioned speedometer and cruise it is likely a fuse.

U try to set cruise it dont come on also speedometer dont work

Fix the speedometer cable or VSS (vehicle speed sensor) circuit before diagnosing the cruise.

The cruise control is a separate system that uses speedometer information to adjust the throttle up or down depending on the speed detected.

Also, the actuator cable for the cruise control could be broken.

But, I would check the speedometer problem out first.
